Ok, I admit that I am ranting again but hey, my life’s ship haven’t been sailing in perfectly smooth water lately. Between having to not panic due to exams; then feeling guilty for not working even though I’ll feel even more guilty if I work; pondering on what papers I should do next semester; and having an argument with my parents etc etc, I think I’m entitled to having some rant on my blog.

As usual I think I give up talking/complaining to my own oneesan, because there is seriously no point. I think it’s the fact that our personality just made such things impossible. Right now I want some sympathy by having some one listening to me rant, and say that they agree with me at the moment when I get really work up, and if they disagree, I can understand, I want them to at least break it out in a gentle manner. But my oneesan never seem to understand the offering me some sympathy. I remember once complaining to her about how I score really bad in a NCEA assessment and I was pretty upset, and I mean surely most people would say something like “It’s ok, don’t be so upset, it’ll be ok.” Instead she said something like “That’s stupid NCEA.” I mean for goodness sake! How does that help your sister who feels like that her whole world is darkening? It’s like what happened to Satsuki-sis in regard to her Japanese exam (if you know it then you’ll know it without me explaining it, and I really have no right to elaborate either). Ok…I’m not saying my oneesan is completely unsympathetic 24/7 or anything as she can be very nice, but it’s just that right now I’m a bit angry. (partly due to the fact that I’ve seen her in front of the computer since 12 for about at least the six hours. The reason I’m pissed is mainly that she did it without getting told off, which I surely would. And she doesn’t feel guilty…if I did that I’ll probably be twitching every time anyone enters the room).

Another reason I’m mad is that I expected her to give me some sympathy in regard to this whole general education business. (because of my degree I have to select to general education paper which means I have to do two paper that is not related to my degree.) I’m really angry at this because as I said before, I thought the whole point about university is that you can do what you want because we’ve done all the general education for me. I’m angry due to the fact that my oneesan said she think there is nothing wrong with that (yeah…I bet. Just because she’s not doing it, I bet she wouldn’t be that happy if she had to give up doing something she likes instead of doing something that she doesn’t like.) I admit, I’ll probably find the stuff rather good because university lecture can actually talk for a whole hour without letting you fall asleep most of the time so it probably won’t be that bad. When I first entered university one of the thing I really wondered is how you will manage to not get bored from a whole hour of listening to another person talk only, but well, it isn’t that bad. You do get bored but it’s not ZZZZZ every time class start. And I guess if I actually find economics a bit interesting I can probably survive doing a general education paper. I mean I remember forth form economic as nothing but a memory of pure horror. I got an absolutely crap mark for my economic exams and the only reason I passed for forth form business study was because I managed to do ok for the accounting exam. (in forth form I did business study, which split the exam into two parts: economics and accounting). I thought I was going to battle with falling asleep in my economic classes in the economic paper I did in first semester 2006 but no, nothing of that sort (most of the time). It was pretty interesting.

Back to studying I guess…wish me luck everyone! Freedom should come to me for about a week by the time I get this posted.

Oh yeah, and the whole thing about the rice ball, I forgot about that. Basically on Friday I went home quite late and I was hungry, so I suddenly remembered the rice ball shop that I said I’ll go one day. (it’s called QQ rice and there’s a store in Welleslet St and one in Dominion road.) so I went there and it was…interesting. Think of it was subway only with everything shoved into a rice ball instead of a sandwich. It was really nice…quite nostalgic as I haven’t eat a proper rice ball since what seemed like ages. Maybe even years and years. As I take a bit into it I feel tears trailing out from my eyes to slid down on my cheeks…ok, that’s definitely going to far. But the thing is I was kind of not doing that well on Friday, so somehow eating the rice ball made me recollect a lot of things, which made me quite sad. But it seems that to observers I was gazing sadly at the rice ball…I’m talking nonsense now, blame that on too much stress due to exams. The only drawback is that I think it is kind of too expensive. One rice ball costs at least $5 and I guess I was just thinking of the yakisoba that is sold at the same price in the place where I work. And I swear, the yakisoba is like at least five times larger then the rice ball. Or I can get a box of butter chicken curry which is bigger. Compared to a kebab it is really expensive as well as a kebab is 3 times larger and it only costs about 3 dollars more. Although I still recommend those who read this to go there once: see it as trying something new by eating a rice ball. It is really nice and you get interesting rice, there’s like purple rice…black rice…brown rice etc etc.

First of all, every one can see that I have changed my blog’s background again. This is because I really want a way to display my tag on one side, and the summary bar is the best I can come up with. While I don’t really like this design that much for the sake that it is a bit too plain, I do like the summary bar, as well as the way that the tag is upward, instead of being after the entry. Maybe I can managed to put my fan fictions up on my blog, I really want to! Although the problem is that there is a word limit so it’ll mean I have to separate a single fan fiction into numerous entries- although at least I now how to hide stuff behind linkes.

This is just a general rant…first of all, I have a phone phobia now. This is due to the fact that I have been called to work, but I can’t go- since I have to study, right now my occupation is a full time student! Even though I know that I should not go, and I’ll feel more guilty if I go, I still feel pretty bad for refusing to go and work. That is why, as a result, I am really nervous whenever I hear the phone ring…I’ll be thinking… “Don’t be for me don’t be for me because I don’t want to go to work!!!”

Other rant…markers are so evil! They have a right to refuse to mark your work, or give it a bad mark if you don’t write tidy enough, while I can understand that, the annoying thing is that their writing are not exactly the neatest either!!! The real reason I am really pissed at this right now is due to the fact that I got 7 mark less in my economic test due to someone’s bad writing. (although luckily I detected the mistake and was able to get my mark raised!!!) For that question I got 11/13 but due to the marker’s messy hand writing, the bit in the front which shows you mark being added up said that I got 4/13!!! EVIL!!!

And I am so mad at whoever invented the system of general education in university, I am convinved that it is just another way of eating up our money. I mean, isn’t the whole point of being in university doing what you want and/or like to do? But no, they have to insert this general education thing, which means you have to take a paper that is not related to your degree. So me, I am screwed. I don’t know what I am suppose to do now, as the papers available to me are like science and music, and I don’t want to do either!!! I guess that is why I’m putting it off…

What else...why on earth do I continue updating my blog when I get so little message? I think it is because this is like the closest to a web page that I can do, and I had dreams of making a web page when I was little. So regardless of the comments (or no comments really) I will continue! Um…no major reviews coming up soon because I am too busy, but I am thinking about doing some soon! 

I can’t think of anything that I want to say really. Oh I brought the cutest clock the other day, it’s in the shape of a bunny and it is just so so cute!!! It kind of look like a nice version of the were-rabbits in Wallace and Gromit (although I’ve only seen random screen shots).

Last note to my sister, although I am not sure whether she would be reading my blog but still…: you are going to read that book right? I want to know what is happening and what will happen!!!

So much for not talking about anime and manga a lot eh? But anyway, I had this idea when I couldn’t go to sleep one day some time ago during my Christmas holidays, and then I couldn’t sleep again a few days later, and since that happened, I decided to type up all the pairings in the manga/anime that I read or have seen, which kind of relates to fan fiction. Right now, I only typed up something for the above three manga/anime.
Note: the pairings are naturally not all the pairings, but only what interest me enough to comment about. Also depend on the paring’s origin, ie. How much I like the actual story. For example, if I don’t really like story A then I’m obviously not going to be much interested in the characters, and vice versa.
As for the total randomness of the nature of this list, well I simply can’t sleep.

Fushigi Yugi
Hotohori x OC = I actually wrote two very long fan fiction on this pairing, but I actually don’t read that much stories of this paring, as I am very picky in regard to what the OC is like. I expect the OC to be a very mature and grown up person, a bit like him I guess. (Brief advertisement: Buried memories, my second fan fiction of Fushigi Yugi with Hotohori as the central character is finally finished! It is available for read at Fanfiction.net)

Hotohori x Houki = initially I don’t really like this paring because I really believe that he only married her for the sake of politics. But I now believe that he and Houki truly love each other so this is probably my favourite pairing, as well as the pairing that I support the most in the story.

Hotohori x Miaka = despite the fact that he did loved her in the real story, I don’t support this paring because it is obvious that Miaka is meant for Tamahome, so I feel that if they do end up together, Hotohori would still not be loved by her, it would only be an affection. Even though I don’t really like Tamahome and Yui, I still don’t like how they are made into bastards in many of the stories with this paring.

Hotohori x Nuriko = I don’t have anything strong against homosexuality, if that is the way it is, then well, that is the way it is. But even though I don’t condemn it as being wrong, I still tend to think as a heterosexual person. I prefer heterosexual parings as homosexual pairings are not right for me unless the author especially mention that is how it goes- in that case, so it is. (bring me back to my history lecture last semester, sexuality is only right or wrong due to the social standards. If this sound rather interesting, then considering taking History 102 in Auckland University) But in regard to this pair I can only say ewww…because Hotohori is not like that!

Hotohori x Soi = to be honest I have yet to see this pairing, but I guess I thought about it because Soi is my favourite female character in fushigi yugi, and in a way it will be rather interesting. I think it might not be that bad for them to be together because I think they both deserve someone better, and they are both absolutely loyal. But on the other hand, it will be quite tragic if Hotohori and Soi do fell in love with each other, because they can never probably be together- for a start, Hotohori would never be allowed to marry Soi, and even though they would probably both accept this, it would still be very sad. So in regard to this pairing…I have yet to make up my mind about it. (I’ve actually been thinking about doing a one shot fan fiction with this pairing…)

Soi x Nakago = I don’t really like Nakago, but Soi love him, and I do support these two being together, because that means Soi finally receives the love that she wants. I also support these two being together because I strongly believe that Nakago and Soi has love no one but the other. (although don’t forget the important thing about fan fiction, one can freely change a lot of stuff.)

Soi x Tomo = I think this is a very interesting pairing, and to an extent I quite like it. There is also the strong irony as both of them love Nakago, yet I feel that with Tomo, Soi might actually live normally without being haunted by the past- something I don’t feel possible in the Soi x Nakago stories, unless it is an alternative universe.

Soi x Tasuki = strange enough, they seem to be quite a popular pairing! I don’t really know why though, personally I just don’t see how Soi can ever put up with someone like him. Soi is so mature while Tasuki just doesn’t seem to grow up! I really think Soi will need someone either her equal, or older. I just find this pairing really weird…

Miaka x Tamahome = I don’t like these two that much but hey, that’s just because I don’t like their character, and they are meant to be together. And I have to admit, some of the stuff Tamahome said is really sweet.

Miaka x Nuriko = I don’t like this pairing because I think Nuriko deserves better.

Miaka x Tasuki = strangely enough, I actually think that this is quite a good pairing, although because I don’t like Miaka, and is not that interested in Tasuki, I don’t really care for this pairing that much as to go and read stories with this pairing.

Amiboshi x Miaka = Don’t like this pairing for the reason that I think he deserves better.

Tamahome x Yui = I don’t like this paring because stories with these pairings usually seem to assassinate their characters- while I don’t like Yui and think she is pretty bitchy, I do think it is too unfair for Tamahome, as he would not be unfaithful.

Tasuki x Chichiri = due to the two of them being the surviving warriors of Suzaku, there has been stories of them being together. I suppose if you think about it, it is not that bad as their characters really does balance, but I don’t like it because that’s just not right! If Tasuki is a girl then I think that’ll be a really cute pairing. (I can’t help it, I am a very heterosexual person)

Nakago x Yui = I don’t like Yui while I like Soi, so I naturally don’t like this pairing. As mentioned before in my fushigi yugi review, I think Nakago need someone who can know all about his crime, and accept and understands him. To be straightforward- Nakago deserves someone like Soi, not Yui. I think he deserves way better then Yui. (this is how much I dislike Yui)

Nakago x Tomo = according to the author Nakago see most people as simply a being to be used or not, instead of a man or a woman. But somehow I just don’t see him and Tomo getting together, although Tomo does love him. So no, I don’t like this pairing as I simply can’t see how it would be possible.

Suboshi x Yui = I suppose they can be quite a good couple although Suboshi does annoy me, but he really does love Yui, and he is more suited for Yui then either Nakago or Tamahome.

Fushigi Yugi Genbu Kaiden
This is done when I have only read the first five volume so there is not that much pairing for me to write right now…
Hikitsu x OC = this is the exact same thing as a Hotohori x OC pairing, I am very picky in regard to these, and the same criteria applies. (Brief advertisement again: at the very end of Buried memories, there is a preview of the fan fiction on Genbu Kaiden that I plan to write with Hikitsu as the central character with an OC!)

Hikitsu x Tomite = Ok, one word…ewwwww! Because their relationship is nothing like that, they love each other as siblings and friends- the author herself said this. I really hate it when people goes ‘Takiko would definitely be with Uruki, because Tomite will be with Hikitsu’, because Hikitsu and Tomite’s relationship is simply not like that!!!

Hikitsu x Takiko = I don’t mind this pairing although I haven’t seen it.

Takiko x Uruki = the official pairing and I quite like the two of them together. Takiko is a much more likeable character then Miaka.

Takiko x Tomite = the author herself said there is nothing romantic going on between these two but I think the two of them being together would be quite cute! Personally I think Uruki is only a bit more mature then Tomite, so it’s not impossible for him to be with Takiko if she could get together with Uruki.

Tomite x Aira = I really like the two of them together because Tomite is basically the only one that Hikitsu would happily allow his sister to be with, and the fact that Hikitsu is like Tomite’s brother make it really cute for him and Aira to get together. The only reason I’m not supporting this pair with full force is due to the fact that Tomite is going to die so I don’t want Aira to spend the rest of her life alone in grief…

Inuyasha
Sango x Sesshomaru = my favourite pairing in Inuyasha- as well as the one that I support the most, this is also the weirdest pairing I have every supported as well. But I truly think that these two are a perfect match, they are both really strong and yet they have a tendency of hiding what they really want to say by saying something the opposite. I mean, for Sango- she definitely deserves someone better then Miroku, someone that would always be completely faithful, while for Sesshomaru- someone who is strong both physically and mentally, as well as being very gentle. There is also the great irony of him being a great yokai while she is a yokai exterminator. But this only to prove that love can conquer all! (something totally random- the yokai marking on Sesshomaru’s eyelid is actually the same shade as Sango’s eyeshadow…)

As you can obviously tell, I am a big supporter of Sango x Sesshomaru, I probably have read most of the fan fictions with these on fanfiction.net. It used to be seven pages…now it’s 8 pages of stories… (brief advertisement for the last time: I decided to show my great support of Sango x Sesshomaru by writing and ‘publishing’ the fan fiction that I wrote in regard to the two of them. It is called “Tears” and as all my other fan fictions are, it is available to be read at Fanfiction.net.)

Sango x Miroku = as I said before, I think Sango deserve better. Granted that I think Miroku will remain faithful to her- only that he would still flirt with girls for the sake of doing it- I still think she deserve someone who would be simply faithful full stop (like Sesshomaru). But however, their romance is the author’s official one, and since I am not that that interested in Inuysaha’s romances the Sango x Miroku romance is my favourite part of the story, so to an extent, I do support them. (to be honest, they were my favourite paring in Inuyasha until I realized that she would be so much better with Sesshomaru.)

Sango x Inuyasha = Definitely don’t like as I just don’t see how it would happen. I think Inuyasha is the opposite of his brother- he need someone gentle with him, someone he can protect. As for Sango, I think Inuyasha is too immature for her.

Sango x Kouga = Even though there is still the fact of a yokai and a yokai exterminatory, this pairing just lack the sense of deep irony and even bitterness I feel in regard to the Sango x Sesshomaru pairing. I don’t really care for this pairing, as it is just not a possibility for me. I just don’t see them as a pair.

Sango x Bangotsu = this pairing is…interesting and I have read two or three fan fiction with the two of them. Bangotsu is quite a likeable character, his obvious affection for his ‘family’, as well as being quite naïve in certain aspects, but most of all I think he would not be bad for Sango because of some of his believe- unbound by tradition as he will simply accept fact- so he would see her as a complete equal. And I think he’ll be completely faithful. So in a way it is not that bad a pairing, but I still think Sango and Sesshomaru are the best couple!

Inuyasha x Kagome = well, I think Inuyasha’s best choice is Kagome, not just because the author said so herself, but also because she simply accepts what he is, and she is the same age as him mentally as he’s over 200! To be blunt, their maturity level is kind of the same, although her’s can be a bit higher, but yeah. Although the only negative fact is that after I listened one of the drama cds I seriously think Kagome is going way too far with her sits. What she was doing is almost rather…bitchy.

Inuyasha x Sesshomaru = granted that Yamaguichi Kappei (the voice actor of Inuyasha) and Narita Ken (the voice actor for Sesshomaru) were in Muteike together as lovers I don’t agree with many’s tendency of letting that influence their judgement of making these two go together. I have to say ewwwwwwww…because the two brothers are not homosexual or/and incestuous!

Inuyasha x Kikyo = originally it is kind of sweet- the thing of a miko in love with a hanyou, but after the whole Kikyo coming back alive thing, I don’t like this pairing anymore. In fact Kikyo is almost selfish, by not accepting Inuyasha as anything other then a human (unlike Kagome and Sango), and the whole wanting to kill Inuyasha thing even after she knew the truth made me strongly dislike her.

Kikyo x anyone else = I don’t like Kikyo, so for almost anyone else I can only say one thing: they deserve better! When I read Sango x Sesshomaru stories a lot of people make Miroku go with Kikyo and I defiantly don’t like it, because I think he deserves better.

Kagome x Miroku = I don’t like this as it is just seem such a weird pairing…I just can’t accept it.

Kagome x Hojo = I feel really sorry for Hojo although he and Kagome is just something that won’t happen, unless she never enter the well. I guess I don’t really like or dislike it, because I think it would be quite cute if she never met Inuyasha! But I don’t see how it could ever work.

Kagome x Kouga = I don’t like this pairing because I think Inuyasha deserves Kagome so much more.

Kagome x Sesshomaru = ABSOLUTELY NO WAY! I dislike this pairing strongly because I strongly support Sango and Sesshomaru being together. Putting my biasm aside I don’t think they would be a good pair because I think Sesshomaru need someone older, and not childish (in a way, Kagome can be quite childish at times.)

Sesshomaru x Rin = I think their relationship is a father and daughter one, although there was a time that I think they might be romantically involved ten years from now. (Rin is about 7 or 8). But now I don’t really like this pairing because I don’t think they will ever be romantically involved.

Sesshomaru x Kagura = I don’t like this pairing because I think while she does love him, he does not- I believe that he only feels some sort of weird pity for her. (as mentioned, I think he should be with Sango. )

Rin x Kohaku = I really like this pairing, as it is just so cute! The two children of the story, and this also relates to my support of Sango x Sesshomaru. Wouldn’t it be really cute if Sango and Sesshomaru are together, and then her brother and his daughter fall in love? Or the opposite: the elder sister and the father like man fall in love.

Kagura x Miroku = this is actually a very good pairing, minus the pervert part of Miroku, he would be good for Kagura- forgiving her and making her forgive herself, helping her out and everything. It’d also be really interesting- the first yokai and human pairing when the human is not the woman, but the man, I think I actually really like this pairing.

Kagura x Koga = I like this pairing too, although I do feel sorry for Ayame in regard to the anime. But I think these two suit each other really well, and getting over the past can be a very good example of how love can conquer all! (although I think it’ll be better for Kagura to end up with Miroku instead.)

Koga x Ayame = to be honest I think she deserves better (especially when it seems that he actually remember asking her to marry him, but purposely forget. And Koga really have no excuse, as it is he- the elder by far, asking a young child to marry him. Really, given the story you would either thought it was her that forgets, or her having asked him as be a child- that he did it to humour her), but on the other hand, she does really love him so I suppose they should get together.

I suppose I shouldn’t complain of life right now as I am surviving, I am in summer school and although I don’t like it, it’s not killing me yet. Economic lectures are not the most exciting lectures in the whole world, but it is not that bad, as I managed to stay awake. As for statistics…our lecturer spent the first lesson telling us how statistics can relate to everything, even ancient Greeks (as I told my sister this, she told me that it is ancient Greeks who can relate to everything… Such enthusiastic lectures always remind me of what happened once in my 7th form statistics.

Flashback…it was statistics and as usual we are focusing hard on the lesson- which happens to be binomial distribution. (Those who are awake that is…) when our statistic teachers suddenly burst out this sentence “And with this you can create some really beautiful maths.
My thoughts: what the…did she just say what I thought I heard? (turn to my friend, who holds an equally stunned face) Ok, she really did say that there are beautiful maths. Must not laugh, must not laugh as I am sitting in the second row…

So yes…something I’ll always remember when I think about statistics…

As for my criminal activity…it’s not anything illegal. But to celebrate the return of our family pc I decided to download some episodes of Shaman king because Koyasu Takehito is in it. All I know is that he is a necromancer who brings around a skeleton…(speaking of Shaman King, it is actually boardcasted every Sunday morning on Channel 2 or 3, I can’t remember which. I always wonder whether I should watch it but I think I’ll end up screaming to hear who ever is doing Koyasu Takehito’s character. I was lucky that the guy who did Hotohori for the English dub was just bad, as opposed to the once who did Soi- who was the one that really scarred me for life. As a result, I have yet to recover from having been idiotic enough to watch a dubbed version. I mean first there was X, which injured me, then the Fushigi Yugi one kind of make my distrust even worse to the point I am struggling to be recovered. So verdict= probably not a good idea for me to watch shaman king- if it is even the same thing…)

But back to the main point…in Shaman King…Koyasu Takehito’s performance is truly amazing…I was really stunned as I watched and hear him. Although it is really scary as his opponent is a psycho…as another character described him: “When he goes psycho, no one can make him see reason.” This role is very different from the main other roles I have seen him from. In Shaman King his character is those kind of people who start off very calm, but then something make them snap and they get really psychotic, including laughing crazily and just don’t see any reason at all…(but from what I have read I really like his character as he is doing all this for love.)

In conclusion…Koyasu Takehito is just amazing…

Soon I will be fully occupied with summer school, which I really don’t want to go as the day will be crammed with studying and working, and some how I was stupid enough to pick two papers so the next month will almost be like hell for me. So naturally, I don’t think I’ll be updating much.

For some bizarre reason I thought I’ll just share some random facts that I learned in university…maybe some of them not exactly what you expected to pay $200 for, but well…they are still interesting.

1= take a look at the length of your ring finger and the index finger. Which one is longer? If your ring finger is longer then your index finger, then this suggests (backed up by scientific research) that you are likely to be lesbian. This was told to us on the last day of my history 102 lecture, and this kind of support the lecture’s believe that science is not really all knowing and all powerful as scientists believe. I certainly agree with her. I remember in fifth form I was so angry at one science class because we were watching this video in my science class that was saying love and all other human emotions are just part of biology related to producing strong heirs. What rubbish! I believe that love and emotion is a gift, not a creation of biology. Again, as I learnt in history 102, if every thing is driven by the scientific idea of reproduction then why does human beauty alter? Why isn’t the ideal body for child birth the ideal beauty?
So back to the finger thing…my index finger is longer but funnily a friend of mine have one side of her index finger longer, but on her other hand, the ring finger is longer. Maybe scientist would say that is a sign of bisexuality…I certainly don’t believe that finger length shows anything like that.

2=Again, from history 102. In the early 20th century or so doctors will examine the testicles of a male baby and if the penis is really small, they will castrate the poor baby with the justification that it prevents them from being teased as being unmanly when they grow up since they will have a small penis. I seriously don’t get this logic. So if a small penis is bad enough…then isn’t it worse if you are a guy with none at all? And surely it is bad to make them into a female as they will be breastless. Isn’t better to be teased at the very worst, instead of being a freak?

3=last piece of knowledge from history 102. In the middle ages, incest also include spiritual kindred- which means that if some one have sex with the child of their godparent, they are committing incest.

4=something more practical. In Commercial law we learnt about defamation, and you can’t be sued if you didn’t tell what you said to a third party, or if you really mean what you said, you really believe it, and if you didn’t’ express it in a malicious way. There are some more criteria but I can’t remember them right now (Which goes the $200, as I forget much as soon as my exam is finished). But an interesting thing related to this is that a diary is regarded as your private property in the fact that it is only intended for you, so you can pretty much do anything with your diary and no one can sue you if they read it. Basically you can probably get away with cursing and ranting in your diary.

I went to my friend’s blog the other day and upon seeing one of her entry, I am inspired to talk about something other then manga/anime (which is not the only thing I know, in case people are wondering, but it is just that my blog mainly deals with them.) the problem with blog is that sometimes i feel like typing what happen is a repeat in my diary…so that’s why my blog often get missed out- although it is different.

Anyway, my friend talked about how she read this really sad children’s story the other day, and she even put it up, and upon reading it I was really touched, as it is such a tragic and beautiful story. The story is called “Tadpole’s promise” and here is a link to her blog: http://123kidult321.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!E9FF89113EC2E152!147.entry#comment
where you can read the story. I really want to put the story up but I haven’t ask my friend yet so for now, please just read it on her blog.

I also felt inspired to put talk about a story that I read as a child, which really touched me. There are a lot of children’s book in my house that we brought from Taiwan, and one of them contains this story which really touched me- as it talks about the idea of what the thing you are searching is actually right beside you, if not being yourself. but I really like the story, and one point I even attempt to translate it into English- which didn’t go well, since my grammer suck. But then one day last year I had the idea of seeing if I can find it on the internet- although I don’t even know what language it is. After a few tries of typing in the title (what I think the title will be in English) I actually discovered the whole thing on internet.

The story is called “The Great Stone Face” and it is by Nathaniel Hawthorne. If you type that in, you should probably be able to find a full version of the story. But anyway, I will do a summary of the story, it is not a very long story and it is really worth reading!

1 = the story is set in a valley where it is over looked by the Great stone face- a group of rock that looks like the face of a man if you look at it from a distant.
2 = the protagonist is Ernest, and in the very beginning of the story he is only a little child. He learns that there is a prophecy in the valley that one day there will be a man who looks exactly like the great stone face. Since that day, he begins to wait for the prophecy to come true.
3 = Throughout his life, there are times when the valley believe the man to have arrive, but unlike the others, Ernest is able to realize that they are not the man the prophecy spoke of so much quicker then the others in the valley. The first man believed to be the exact image of the great stone face is a merchant (Which happens when Ernest is a boy), then a general (when Ernest is a young man), then a politician (Ernest is then a middle aged man), finally- the man is believed to a be a poet.
4 = when Ernest met the poet he is an old man, and once more he is disappointed when he find out that the poet is not the man who looks exactly like the great stone face.
5 = later on that day the poet realizes that Ernest is actually the one who look exactly like the stone face man. We know that this is not wrong, because through out the story there are hints- such as people visiting Ernest then looks at the great stone face when they leave, and say how familiar it seems; as well as how Ernest have a bond with the great stone face that is stronger then anyone else.
6 = but the story ends with Ernest walking home and hope that he will find a wiser man then him who would look more like the great stone face.

Basically that is the story, and please find a copy of the whole thing and read it…it really is really really good! I love the story, especially the idea of Ernest waiting and wanting to see the man who looks like the great stone face when it is him self all along. I also like the ending too...I think that’s a sign of him being the man in the prophecy too.

This is the final paragraph of the story, and I typed it up because I really like it.

“Then all the people looked, and saw that what the deep-sighted poet said was true. The prophecy was fulfilled. But Ernest, having finished what he had to say, took the poet’s arm, and walked slowly homeward, still hoping that some wiser and better man than himself would by and by appear, bearing a resemblance to the Great Stone Face.”

But before I leave I just have to have a rant about the anime of Ayashi no Ceres! The other day my sister’s friend lend me her dvd which contains the anime of Ayashi no Ceres (same friend who gave Fushigi Yugi to us). And so I naturally began to see part of the anime to see the appearance of my favourite charater: Shuro. This is my thought after seeing her appearance in the anime: I want to kill the guy who did the anime. Ok…like Fushigi Yugi, it is not anyone’s fault that Watase Yuu’s drawing just look so much more beautiful on paper, so I’m not angry that Ceres and Shuro don’t look at nice as they do in the manga. But on the other hand, why did they reduce Shuro’s character, and why did they give her such an ugly voice when there is the whole emphasize of her having a very beautiful voice? In the manga Shuro is meant to be a very important character, and her story is really tragic- basically volume 6 consists mainly of her story. But the anime reduce it to a five second flash back, her boy friend didn’t even say anything, he just briefly appear for five second. (Although at least he come out as she die, otherwise I think I will refuse to watch the anime.) Shuro is suppose to be really important as she end up one of Aya’s good friend and even give up so much to help Aya, and she comes out a lot in the manga too! Instead, in the anime they just reduce her to a random character that only appeared for about 5 minute in one episode of the anime!!! This is worse then what happened to Fushigi Yugi.

I haven’t listened to that much character songs but I feel I have to talk about the character songs of Fushigi Yugi, because I feel they are the best character songs that is ever done regarding to animes. They are character song, not images songs, as in the voice actors did the performances themselves. Let’s see…X does not have character songs, which is a pity, while Inuyasha…I’m sorry, but I don’t really like Inuyasha’s character songs as…
1= Why didn’t Sango get one if Naraku gets one? There are so many people who got missed out in regard to the character songs.
2 = let’s not even mention how Inuyasha doesn’t sound like himself, the Naraku and Sesshomaru character song is just the voice actors singing, not the character.

Although the Miroku character song is pretty good, as you can feel that it is character singing, but I don’t think it’s that a good portrayal of his character. So that is why I love the fushigi yugi character songs as I feel that not only are most lyrics just really beautiful and good, the voice actors managed to sing them as if they are the characters. What I’ll do is that I’ll sort the songs by character, and talk about the songs and how I feel the performance is, and how I think it is a good portrayal of the characters etc etc. And I’ll do it in the order I did the characters.
I determined to post this up today because I want to post Christmas related stuff on Christmas day and I don’t want there to be a gap. This means there’ll probably be quite some typo but please don’t get discourage. I will correct them later.

Hotohori
I truly think he has the best character songs and that Koyasu Takehito sang the very best, but I am highly biased. But I really love his character songs, so I am going to post the translations of the lyrics up- don’t worry, I’ll only put his lyrics up. My sister say that Koyasu Takehito always sound the same but I feel that even though his voice doesn’t alter in pitch, what he does with his voice is absolutely amazing as just by the way he speak…his tone…he make you listen to him as different characters! For example, Ishida Akira sounds pretty much the same but for me, he is unable to do what Koyasu Takehito can do, when I hear something Ishida Akira voices, I tend to associate the voice with the voice actor more, instead of the character. But this problem just doesn’t happen with Koyasu Takehito. The way he speaks in Fushigi Yugi just makes me think: “Oh, Hotohori.” While I’ll watch Weiss Kreuz and even though his voice sounds the same, the tone just makes me go: “Ah, Aya speaking!”
But anyway…the lyrics. The lyrics will be in English, but the title will be in Japanese with the translation in brackets, if there is no bracket then it means that the title is actually in English.

Sadame no Hoshi (Star of Destiny)
Please shine,
Star of Destiny!
Now, it's fading
In my consciousness.

Wishes are far away.
Dreams are in vain.
Yes, erase them
at once.

And then it will all be over.
And then it can all be put aside:
the self-accusations,
worrying about the country,
and the days of
regret and sorrow...

Please shine,
Star of Destiny!
Now, in the sky
that's getting dark.

Please shine,
Star of Destiny!
I should love
the people.

But their sad condition
is not the only concern
that my inner heart
tells me of.

That was our first parting,
but then we'll meet again eternally.
I'll still exist.
The two of us will
always live on
in my memory...

Please shine,
Star of Destiny!
Release this body
into the heavens.

This is my favourite Hotohori character song, and sometimes listening to it really just make me want to grab a box of tissue and sob my heart out. I really like this one the best because I think this song shows him as both the emperor and a normal man. The song shows his responsibility- he expresses his concern for his people in the song, as well as talking about how he blames himself in regard to ruling the country, yet it also shows him as a normal man who is worrying about the one that he love as well as promising them that they will meet again, to be reunited in heaven. In my opinion this song should be played as he dies, because it actually suggests that he is dying in the first and last verse.

Dengon (Message)
A time of sorrow comes
whenever I seek the light.
The spirit of my words
shines in my subject's hearts.

The moon sinks behind the mountain peaks
just before the sun rises
A beautiful, lonely time passes by
There's a country I want to protect
And people I want to support
Prosper, oh fire of life
Sustain forever

Make the happiness of dreaming
into a strength needed for tomorrow,
convey the happiness of living to others,
that is love.

What kind of flower blossoms
from a seed one sows themselves?!
Build
a fruitful world

Remember once again
the pleasure of life,
convey the pleasure to children,
that is love.

Ah... Whatever sorrow or hardships...
I wanted to erase them from before you.

Make the happiness of dreaming
into a strength needed for tomorrow,
convey the happiness of living to others,
that is love

Dengon means message and it actually refers specifically to being a verbal message. This is the song played in the anime when Hotohori died, and even though I think Sadame no hoshi is much more suitable, it is still a very good song. This song is from him as the emperor, it is like his last message to his people, and it deals with his kingdom and people, it is almost like him teaching the people- telling them what to do. Somehow this being played in the anime seem to remind us of his duty as the emperor even more, and suggest that even though he is dying, he still have to place his duty over his personal emotions.

Boku no Uchuu ni Kimi ga Iru (In My Universe, There is You)
In the heavens, the stars are twinkling.
In the ground, the flowers are blooming.
And now, in my universe,
my love for you is shining.

It won't stop.
It won't be stopped.
Love,
like breathing,
is irreplaceable.

I'm glad I was born,
because I exist for you.
I live with pain
as I fight with fate.

Even if you're far away,
whoever you may be with,
I have
only one wish:
your happiness.

Beyond the blue sky,
are the stars that watch over you.
My feelings that shine
for you
are eternal.

Looking up at the heavens with my arms spread wide,
like I'm a bit asleep,
alone, I force a smile,
my heart beating wildly.

It won't stop.
It won't be stopped.
Lovingly
holding you.
I saw it in my dreams.

In the sky, there are stars.
In the ground, the flowers are blooming.
And in my universe, there is you.

I always associate this song to his unrequited love for Miaka, which means I’m not taking into account of the second story arch, where the author decides to make him getting over Miaka, and end up loving Houki.
To me this song is the song where he is speaking only as a normal man in love, not as the emperor of a kingdom. Even though the tune of this song is actually very cheerful, and less regal then the other two, this song is still really sad because of the suggestion of unrequited love. It also shows what happen with him and Miaka quite well, he still wished her happiness despite her being with someone else, and he remained in love with her even as he died, as well as only being able to dream. One of the sweetest love songs I have ever come across.

Miaka
I don’t like Miaka, and I think her voice actor did her role too well in the fact that I don’t like her character songs because they remind me of Miaka. So I don’t like her character songs yet I really like the opening theme for the anime (Which is actually sung by the voice actor who voiced Miaka.) Also, the site I obtained the translations from doesn’t have all of the translations for her song, so I’ll just put the title and translations up.
Inoru you ni Aishite'ru (Loving you as if praying)
Still
Promise Love
Fushigi No Tobira -Open The Wonderland (mysterious door-open the wonderland)
Nanabiri No Uta (song of the seven bird)
Itsuka Aeru Kara (because we’ll see each other again someday)

Tamahome
Same thing, don’t have all the translations of his songs, and I don’t like him that much as to talk about his character songs, so I will only put the title and translations up.
Voice
Ai to Iu Na no Tatakai ni (Into the Battle Called Love)
Eien no Hikari (eternal light)
Kimi Ni Tadoru Michi (the difficult road that you’re on)
Kimi wo Mamoritai (I want to protect you)
Soshite, Yami no Saki ni (And, before the darkness)

Nuriko
Kaze no Uta (Melody of the Wind)
Apparently this song is really popular but I don’t like it that much, I don’t know if it is because I’ve never like Nuriko that much, but it is quite in character and this song shows how he start to feel for Miaka, as he talks about how he wants to protect her, and is determined to protect her. Although to be honest, I like the idea of Nuriko loving Miaka no more then how he loves Hotohori. But the voice actress sounds exactly like the way Nuriko speaks so it’s very in character- I can feel ‘oh, Nuriko singing.’

Perfect world
I don’t like this song much but it can just be because this song is so idealistic and all that, and I much rather we get to see some more detail of Nuriko’s character, instead of just him singing about how wonderful the world can be, how it can be perfect. This is one of the songs I have to complain of not really being in character in my opinion.

Otome Ranman (Maiden in Full Bloom)
This song would be cute if it isn’t for the fact that Nuriko is the one singing it, as he is singing as if he is a girl, talking about how he ‘monopolize all the guys' attention’ as well as how pretty he is. It’s just really weird if you know that the character is actually a guy. This song is also talking about how he feels for Hotohori, as there is mentioning of how his heart belongs to this one particular man. As I said, I don’t really approve of a Hotohori x Nuriko pairing, so I don’t like the lyrics that much as it…scares me? The song ends with Nuriko saying he’s determined to get Hotohori.

Chichiri
The voice actor really scares me with the fact that he can sound really different when he sings as well as speaking really differently!

Mizu-kagami (Water-Mirror)
This is one of my favourite Fushigi Yugi character songs, as there is just something about the word and music that make is such a good song. This song is probably Chichiri’s most serious character song, showing how guilty he feels about what he did, as well as his regret. But it ends positively, as he mentions that he now believes once again, as well as accepting his actions instead of simply denying it. this is what happened in the story too. He had hid what he did until he was forced to say it, and once he did, he felt really guilty and depressed. But later on, due to accepting his actions, he was able to come to term with what happened. It is painful and it would hurt, but he could at least move on.

Ka Chou Fuu Getsu (Flower, Bird, Wind, Moon)
This song is rather cheerful and positive but there are hints of him referring to his past, but yet it shows how he accepts what he has done, although he would occasionally think about it and feel bad. In fact, this song really refers to how he become in the very end of the story..

Ochanoko Saisai Hengen Jizai (it’s a piece of cake to change my appearance)
I haven’t heard this song yet, but from the lyrics it is a very cheerful song, talking about how he will be happy and is part of the seven celestial warriors of Suzaku.

Aoi Jiyuu, Shiroi Nozomi (Blue Freedom, White Wish )
This is actually a character song for both Tasuki and Chichiri, it is a very nice song about how you continue living no matter what because of what is in your heart and because your friends are around you etc etc. To me, it seems very suitable for these two to sing together, as it is probably set after the end, where they are the only survivors out of everyone else. So I suppose it’s a sign of them continuing their lives happily. Although I have read some people complain that at one point Tasuki is not in character, this is because at one point he uses “Kimi” and “Boku”, the more polite version of “you” and “I/me”, where he normally uses “Omae” and “Ore.” But personally I don’t think this matter that much due to the fact that certain songs are different, I’m just happy that I can listen and think that it is from Tasuki’s view, instead of the voice actor’s.

Tasuki
I think Hayashi Nobutoshi (the voice actor) is one of the three that sang the best for the fushigi yugi character songs. The other two being Koyasu Takehito (Hotohori) and Tanaka Atsuko (Soi) and I suppose Tasuki’s songs contains my unbiased view, because I really like the other two. But apparently Hayashi Nobutoshi is a singer as well, and this really shows, because he sings really good.

setsunakutemo…zutto (Although it's Painful...Always)
I like this song because it is sung really nicely, and it is a nice song. But the only problem is that I don’t agree with the lyrics. This song suggest that Tasuki is realizing that he actually does love Miaka in a romantic fashion (which I don’t think that is true), but then he says that he can never speak of it. I don’t know. I don’t like the lyrics because I really don’t think that he feels for Miaka that way, but I find some of the lyrics rather interesting, I think this kind of shows him as really mature, maybe it’s showing him at the very end? I don’t know, personally I think he never really grew up. But this song has the best lyrics in regard to loving someone that you can not love, such a pity that I don’t agree with how it relates to Tasuki and Miaka. But otherwise, great lyrics.

heart ni kiraboshi sakashitare (Make Twinkling Stars Bloom in Your Heart!!)
This song is so different from the previous one, I think this song shows Tasuki’s daily character better, and how he is shown for most of the time. It’s a very in character song, he’s talking about how he’ll just fight for what is right no matter what, and just don’t simply give up. There are also specific references to his iron fan. When I first listened to this song I was cracking up, not due to the lyrics or anything, but due to how the song is sang. You first hear Hayashi’s singing voice (which still sounds like Tasuki, but it’s just not identical, minus Tasuki’s accent), then as the song get to certain bits we get to hear Hayashi’s speaking voice, which is very identical to his singing voice, at least for this song. Then his speaking voice kind of become Tasuki’s speaking voice, with his accents. Somehow that just cracked me up. Kind of like this= Hayashi singing, Hayashi speaking, Tasuki speaking.

Do=Be's ga Yatte Kuru (the Do=Be’s come)
I don’t have this song either but from the lyrics it seems much more like the above song, then the first one. It seems to be talking about just do what you want to do no matter what, and don’t give up.

Mitsukake
Hidarite no Kioku (memories of the left hand)
This song seems to relate with the relationship of he and his girl friend (Shoka). We sees his guilt for not saving her, although it end on a more positive note- he’ll continue living although he’ll never forget her.

Sora ga Mieru (I can see the sky)
Don’t have this song yet, but from the lyrics, it is a very sad song. If Sadame no hoshi is hinting that Hotohori dying, then this song it telling us that Mitsukake is going to die. In this song Mitsukake says that he is happy at what he had accomplished, and the only thing he regret is having to let Shoka die alone, but it does not matter that much because he will be with her soon.

Chiriko
Akai Iitsutae (Crimson Legend)
It is interesting that this is the song that is played when he died, because this is one of the most non-character related songs. In this song, he is really just telling the legend of the priestess of Suzaku, it doesn’t really show any of his character. I like this song, but I just have to say, it doesn’t really deal with his characters.

P.S.: Ai tte Eien Desu ka? (P.S.: Is love forever?)
To be honest, I think this song should be played at his death much more then the above one. This song deals with his character, it shows his revelation of his own character, kind of shows him realizing how he grew up. How he learnt stuff that he could not find in books, and how he became braver etc.

Ito Chiisaki Negai (the smallest wish)
This song is a bit like Nuriko’s perfect world, but it is not as long or as philosophical. I haven’t listened to this song before so I don’t know what it is like, but from how the voice actor sings in the pervious two songs, it will probably sounds very much like Chiriko singing.

Mecha hajikete gattsu Tobashite (Fired Up and Shooting Guts)
This is a really random song which Hotohori, Tamahome, Tasuki and Chichiri sing. It’s a song about being super positive and everything, and about how great they are! It’s a very joking and fooling around song and at four times during the song, you can hear the characters speaking. Well I am really glad that Hotohori get to be in this song instead of Nuriko, it is still really sad, as they still refers to Hotohori as ‘you majesty’ or as ‘Hotohori-sama’, that just makes me so sad as even in this fooling around song he is still not regarded as being one of them completely. I really want to know what was spoken in the very end, because I only found translation for the song, not the speaking bits. But you hear Tasuki saying something about Konan, and then Hotohori immediately replied, and I don’t know what he said, but he sounded really scary, so that is why I want to know what he said!!!

Finally…the celestial warriors of Suzaku are done, I can move onto the warriors of Seiryuu now- that will be shorter because unlike the characters related to Suzaku, not all of the characters related to Seiryuu got a song. Miboshi, Ashitare and Tomo all missed out. I can understand why the previous two would get miss out, but I am quite sad that Tomo didn’t get his own character song, because I think he definitely have enough character to have a character song. But then the character songs do relate to the anime I guess, and his role is very dehydrated in the anime.

Soi
Tanaka Atsuko really sings so beautifully. She sounds nice when she speaks, but I think she is one of these people who just sound so much more beautiful when they sing. As a result I love Soi’s character songs although I don’t really get one of them.

Koori-tachi no puraido (Pride of ice)
I actually don’t really get this song, although I just love it because it is just such a nice song due to the absolutely beautiful and amazing voice of the voice actor as she sings. I suppose this song shows how Soi presents herself, we see her determined to destroy her enemies, as well as taunting them. Her reference to Seiryuu is quite interesting as she seems to have great faith in Seiryuu, although I never had the impression that she was such a devoted person. Then in the second half of the song I think she addresses Nakago at one point by wishing that he’ll listen to her, before referring to her enemies. I’m not fully sure with this song because as I stated, I don’t really get it.

Furuete Kudasa (Please Tremble)
Lyrics wise, I like this song so much better. It is a very in character song as this is a song where Soi talks about her feelings for Nakago, she’ll do anything for him and she’ll even be happy to die for him, if that is how she can save him, which is what happens to her. It is a very beautiful and yet sad songs as she asks Nakago to just tremble and mourn for her for just a few second, as long as she have that, then she is content. I especially like the last verses. Ok…I really like this song, so I’m putting the lyrics up.

I would be able to say that I was happy
to sacrifice my life for him,
if it were the only way
to protect him.

I can show him a smile
even as my breath is fading far away.
This calmness can never be taken away from me,
not even by whatever destiny I have.

Since when have I been so strong?
Since the day I met him?
Since when have I felt so deeply?
No, since before I was born.

Please, tremble.
If even for a moment.
Embrace me
with shaking arms,
with the eyes of a fatherless child
who has just learned love
after being slapped by someone.

Please, tremble.
I'd be happy
if only one teardrop
could pass through
his glass heart.
Then the agony I've been through
would be cured.

When the pain reaches to the very heart of me,
I'll be looking at you.
My love for you will remain eternally
even when my entire body dies out.

Since when have I been so strong?
Since when have I carried my heart with me,
and felt so deeply?
Since the day I was born once again.

Please, tremble.
Come on, without hiding anything,
reveal all
your weaknesses,
with the face
of a motherless child
crying quietly.

Please, tremble.
If you show me
even a bit of regret,
I will not ask you
anything more.
The dream a young girl had one day
will now be fulfilled.

Please, tremble.
I'd be happy
if only one teardrop
could pass through
his glass heart.
Then the agony I've been through
would be cured.

Yui
As mentioned before, I really don’t like Yui, but on the other hand I think her voice actor sang the song too well, because I actually like her character songs!!!

Aoi Arashi (Blue Storm)
This is my favourite character song of Yui’s although it still shows her as quite a nasty person, as she mentions how she is determined to have her revenge no matter what, as well as showing how vindictive she is, then to have her moan about being betrayed once again. But on the other hand, this song is such a nice song, so I like this song even though it’s Yui’s character song.

I wish
This song talks about Yui’s feelings in regard to Tamahome, I’m not sure if I have mentioned but she actually love him, so part of her vindictiveness came from being jealous of Miaka. In this song she is talking about how much she wants to be loved even though she knows that it is a hopeless cause.

Best friend
I guess this is quite a sad song if you think about it as it deals with her friendship with Miaka. She expresses worry for Miaka, although she is jealous of Miaka getting all the good deal. She also reveals that she is feeling a bit guilty at what she would do, although personally I don’t think she was. It ends quite sad, as she decided that even though she wants to abandon all this and just go with Miaka, she won’t.

Nakago
Houkou (Roaming/wandering)
I often see this song with the title being roaming or wandering. But any way this song really impresses me, because it sounds very much like Nakago. I remember how my sister was saying we can’t expect the Sesshomaru character song to be in character, because he is not the type of the character to sing. At the time my immediate thought was, ‘If Nakago could do it, then so can Sesshomaru.’ But anyway, they played this song when Nakago dies and it is really suitable, this shows what Nakago is like, what he becomes, how he will show no mercy, and the only thing he want is victory by fighting.

Blue Eyes...Blue
I don’t like this song that much due to it having a bit of a jazz like background. But as always, lyrics are absolutely well done. He’s remembering what had happened long ago, but says that he is unable to remember. It shows what he feels about love and loneliness, which he claim to not feel, because he has neither loved, or even be closed to someone. At the end of the song there is a verse of him wandering whether things might have been different, if he managed to save his mother.

Amiboshi
Nokutan (Nocturne)
This song is very gentle and slow paced, quite like Amiboshi’s character, as opposed to his brother’s character song, fast paced and loud. There is the theme of forgetting this song which I don’t think is accidental, it reflects his wish of forgetting everything, and even him being of a slight coward but refusing to fight. But in a way, not fighting is the real strength. So a very nice song in more then one way.

Suboshi
Never Get Away
I think this song deals with what Suboshi feels for Yui. He doesn’t care what he do as long as it is for her, it also shows how vindictive he can get, as there is a verse where he is saying that he will never forgive the one hurt Yui, and he will avenge her through whatever means. Kind of scary, because Soi is more the ‘oh, poor woman…this is so sad, what you are willing to do for him.’ Where as Suboshi is getting to ‘ok…I think I’m getting ga bit scared’ stage. But I like this song as it is really catchy.

Futatsu no Kodou (two beats)
This is actually a Suboshi/Amiboshi character song and without hearing it and just by looking at the lyrics I am kind of confused, I don’t know if it is them both singing, or just one or someone singing about them. But the lyrics look quite good. 

Finished for now, there are actually two more character songs but they deal with people I haven’t talk about in my review so I can’t be stuffed doing them. But please a comment about what I wrote, because it took me ages to do so if you read it and enjoyed then please leave a comment! At any rate, it’s going to be a pretty long time before I post up the next manga/anime review.

I should really be typing up my fushigi yugi fan fiction since I only have one chapter and an epilogue to do before it will officially be finished, but some how it seems that my muse is absent right now, so I will continue finishing this.

I guess I better talk about the rest of the important characters. In regard to fushigi yugi the characters can be neatly divided up to two categories, whether they are related to Suzaku or to Seiryuu. So first, the ones related to Suzaku as they are the more important characters in the story. With the exception of Miaka and Yui, everyone else is celestial warriors of either Suzaku or Seiryuu.

Yuki Miaka (夕城美朱)- voiced by Araki Kae
The main protagonist of the story. She enters the universe of the four gods and becomes the priestess of Suzaku. When I first read the manga I actually quite like Miaka, but after re-reading it I actually realize that I actually really dislike her. The reasons of why I dislike her are that I feel she never realize the seriousness of the whole situation, as she constantly seem to regard eating as so much more important. And secondly- she is absolutely useless, and that combined with her inability of grasping the situation caused so many people to suffer.

Tamahome -voiced by Midorikawa Hikaru
Tamahome is the first celestial warrior met by Miaka when she arrive the world. (Hotohori being the second). Tamahome is basically the male lead of the story, and it is probably because I don’t like Miaka, which led me to not liking him. I think one reason is because he and Miaka are always so hesitant about their emotions even though it is so obvious that they both love each other. I think it is just I feel really indignified on behalf of Hotohori, he is really putting up barriers that are none existent when he doesn’t know how lucky he is.

He is very obsessed with money until he began to fall in love with Miaka (although to do him justice, the reason he is obsessed with money is due to having to support his family. At his family I always thought it is really ironic, he and Hotohori have about the same amount of siblings, but unlike Tamahome, Hotohori’s family is not even a family at all.)
Tamahome get to be reborn into Miaka’s world in order to be with her, the second OVA centres on him as it deals with the rest celestial warriors finding what contains his memories. In the second story arch there is the side theme of how the past and present are not separate due to Tamahome being ashamed that he lacked the power which he had in Konan, as a celestial warrior of Suzaku- instead of just being a normal man.

Nuriko – voiced by Sakamoto Chika
Nuriko is the third celestial warrior that Miaka find, and initially appears as one of Hotohori’s concubines (who are all ignored due to the fact that Hotohori has been in love with Miaka ever since he heard of the story.) Nuriko seems a relatively normal woman apart from being a celestial warrior of Suzaku, as well as being gifted with abnormal strength. Initially, Nuriko and Miaka have a rather antagonising relationship as it is revealed that Nuriko is in love with Hotohori, and therefore she is jealous of Miaka.

However, it is then revealed that Nuriko is actually a man, and the reason of him pretending to be a woman is due to the death of his younger sister, whom he loves very much. He dress and act as a woman as a way of preserving her memory, to make it appear as if she is still alive. Later on in the story, he realized that he has live in the past for too long, and begins to wear man’s clothing and even cut his hair as a symbol of letting it all go. He even gives up his love for Hotohori and seems to end up being in love with Miaka instead.

Initially, Nuriko seems a rather childish character, due to his infatuation with Hotohori as well as his seemingly very sincere believe of being a woman. It is rather funny, as he got really jealous when they come across a group of bandit, and not only does the bandits mistaken both he and Hotohori to be women, there is one specific bandit who regards Hotohori as being more ‘beautiful’ then Nuriko, at this Nuriko ends up really angry.

For me, Nuriko become a much more likable character in the end- especially when he give up his love for Hotohori, as he becomes rather protective of Miaka as well as trying to help Miaka and Tamahome’s relationship, which continues even onto the later story arch. In fact, he actually dies for the sake of protecting Miaka, and his last thoughts are actually to Miaka. In the second story arch, we also see the relationship between Nuriko and his elder brother.

Chichiri – voiced by Seki Tomokazu
The forth celestial warrior that Miaka finds, although in this case she didn’t really find him, as he actually found her first and begins to protect her. Chichiri is the oldest out of all the celestial warrior, and he is usually the one that thinks of what they should do. Chichiri is also very considerate, he actually uses his magic he let Hotohori travel with Miaka for sometime (in Konan, but not when they leave Konan), seeing how upset Hotohori is at having to remain behind due to his duties.

Chichiri is one out of the two celestial warriors who survives, (I did say that my character summaries usually included spoilers). In the second story arch we learn about his past, which explain how he obtained the scar on his face (which cause him to wear a mask for most of the time). When he was younger, his fiancée cancelled their engagement and he believed that it was because she fell in love with his best friend. This caused him to accidentally kill his best friend, as well as not saving his fiancée when he had a chance to. It turned out that what really happened was that his best friend was in love with his fiancée, and therefore kissed her, and by being a very traditional woman she believed herself to be unworthy due to that one kiss. I don’t really like his story because it is just so frustrating! I guess it’s also because it seems so anti-feminist, although that is not the author’s fault at all.

Tasuki –voiced by Hayashi Nobutoshi (who is now known as Kanna Nobutoshi)
The fifth celestial warrior that Miaka finds. Tasuki is a mountain bandit and is meant to be the new leader, initially he faces the problem of being usurped when he was away. Miaka and the rest helps him to get his position back, and he then decides to help Miaka and the rest, (his best friend will temporarily be the leader during his absence). Initially, at least for me, Tasuki seems a rather serious character, but this is quickly proven to be otherwise. He is usually one of the main causes of comical relief as he often jokes around and acts rather unserious for most parts.

As mentioned before, there are only two celestial warriors of Suzaku who survives, Chichiri is one, while Tasuki is the other. Initially he seems to treat Miaka as a little sister, although he keeps on saying that he hate girls (this is probably due to the fact that he is the only and youngest boy in his family of nine (ie. He has six elder sisters). Personally I think he is so fond of Miaka because of her being so useless, in the second story arch we get to meet one of his sisters (and she seems rather scary…kind of opposite to Miaka.) I think he is the type of guy who wants to play the role of an elder brother since he doesn’t get much chance to do so I his family.

However, the second story arch also explores his character a bit deeper in regard to his relationship with Miaka. It seems that he actually love Miaka romantically, as he get possessed and under the possession, he was meant to have acted out what he really wanted- which almost involve rape. On my part I don’t think Tasuki is romantically in love with Miaka, I think it’s the kind of sibling love that becomes too possessive. Loving them so much as a sibling that you feel you have a right of interfering in their life, and doing all sort of things that would hurt them as you believe that you are doing it for their own good. I know that some people don’t like what he does in the second story arch but I think it is within character- he really cares for Miaka and I think like many elder siblings, deep down inside their heart, they do not wish to share their little siblings out of the fear of the other hurting them.

Tasuki carries an iron fan around him as it is his weapon, it can emit flame.

Mitsukake –voiced by Ishii Kōji
The second to last celestial warrior. He is gifted with the ability of healing, and he ends up becoming a doctor. But he gives up his healing anyone when he failed to save Shoka, the woman that he love (she was suddenly sick and had he been beside her then he could have saved her, but as he was healing someone in another village, he failed to reach her before she died). It turned out that Shoka, unable to rest, is haunting the world, after Miaka and the rest managed to help him putting Shoka to rest, he joins them.

Mitsukake is a very serious and silent character but there are times when he jokes with the rest of the Suzaku warriors. He died when Kutou officially declared war on Konan, as he uses up all his energy in order to use his power of healing people. Even though Chichiri, (who is beside him) tells him to rest, he insists on saving an infant, as he believes her to be Shoka’s reincarnation.

Chiriko –voiced by Kawakami Tomoko
The last of the celestial warrior to be found. Chiriko is also the youngest of all the celestial warriors of Suzaku. Even though he is very young, he is actually a genius, he studies very hard and was going to take the exams government officials must take to proof themselves, although this turns out to be only partly true. Like all the other celestial warriors, he has a word on his body that proves to anyone that he is a celestial warrior of Suzaku. However, unlike the others, he is also affected by the word. When the word is there, he is a very intelligent boy, but when it is gone, he lacks the high amount of intelligence that he have, and even become less brave (there is a scene where he is explaining something to Taisuki rather calmly even as they are chased by monsters, but when the word disappears, he begin to cry). Later, it is revealed that he actually didn’t go to find Miaka straight away even though he knows that she is the priestess, as the word suddenly disappeared, and he felt very afraid.

Chiriko dies due to having his body being possessed by Miboshi (a celestial warrior of Seiryuu). Seeing that his friends are unwilling to hurt him and therefore let Miboshi continue hurting everyone else through his body, he decides to stop Miboshi by the only possible way: he kills himself when he manages to gain control of his own body, as well as also killing Miboshi.

In the second story arch, Chiriko reveals that his motive for studying so hard is because he felt that is the only thing he was good at. He also reveals that there were time when he felt very inferior to everyone else, as he was not that useful, but after what had happened, he realize that he is not useless, and is more proud of who he is for the simple reason that he is fighting alongside everyone.

Ok…that is half done. But I thought I’ll just give the basic data of the celestial warriors of Suzaku before I move onto the warriors of Seiryuu. Basically all of the celestial warriors (regardless of the god that they serve) would have a word on them that serves as a proof of them being the celestial warrior of the deity. The words of the celestial warrior of Suzaku are red, while the celestial warriors of Seiryuu have blue words.

Age of everyone at the very start of the story (includes Miaka)= Hotohori (18); Miaka (15); Tamahome (17); Nuriko (18); Chichiri (24); Tasuki (17); Mitsukake (22); Chiriko (13).

The meanings of the celestial warrior’s character= Hotohori (星=star); Tamahome (鬼=ghost); Nuriko (柳=willow); Chichiri (井=well); Tasuki (翼=wings); Mitsukake (軫=chariot); Chiriko(張=Extended Net).

Location of character= Hotohori (left side of his neck); Tamahome (forehead); Nuriko (left chest); Chichiri (right knee); Tasuki (right forearm); Mitsukake (left palm); Chiriko (right feet).

Now…onto the characters related to Seiryuu…

Now, the celestial warriors Seiryuu. As I am a very biased person, I am going to start talking about my favourite character on the side of Seiryuu first, which is Soi, a celestial warrior of Seiryuu. She is actually my second favourite character and it is her that kept me watching the second half of the anime when Hotohori virtually disappears. I guess she is my favourite female character in the story. With the exception of Yui, every character mentioned below is a celestial warrior of Seiryuu.

Soi –voiced by Tanaka Atsuko
Soi is the only female celestial warrior of Suzaku and she was created with the intention of serving as a contrast against Nuriko. The result is that she dresses herself in masculine clothing- armours, and according to those who understand Japanese, the way she speak is very masculine as well. The reason that Soi does this is because she want to be of use to Nakago (see below), who she is in love with. She is a very skilled fighter, and she can manipulate lightening as well. But despite the fact that she presents herself as a very masculine woman who suppresses the usual limited boundaries and capability of most women in her time, she is actually a rather feminine person. (personally, I think Soi is one of the most beautiful female ever drawn by Watase Yuu, this could be due to the fact that by being a shojo manga artists, the artist would usually be drawing girls, so Soi is one the few women drawn by Watase Yuu. The other exception being Ceres from Ayashi no Ceres-aka Ceres, celestial legend, and it is just such a pity as Watase Yuu’s drawings are so beautiful! Her girls are often pretty, but they can never be as beautiful as her women.) According to Watase Yuu, Soi’s nature is very kind and gentle, and she has a desire of being seen as a woman (shown by how she would wear lipstick, despite being dressed in armours).

Like most celestial warrior of Seiryuu, Soi’s past is very bitter. Due to poverty, she was sold to a brothel when she was only twelve, and at her refusal of being obedient, the brothel owner had been hitting her. This led her to meet Nakago, as he beats up her brothel owner, although he then left her. But since that day, Soi has been in love with Nakago. However, it seems that Soi remained in the brothel, and probably ended up as a prostitute. It is unknown as to how she escaped and met Nakago, but once she found him, she ends up being willing to do anything for him.

Soi is deeply in love with Nakago, but the tragic thing is that he does not seem to love her back (Personally I think he is in love with Soi, although he doesn’t realize that until she dies). But upon discovering that Soi has the ability of healing or wounding someone by making love to them, Nakago would sleep with her. Even though she knows that she is only being used, Soi still willingly sleeps with him whenever he wishes to. (There is a scene when Nakago had held Soi in what seem a rather gentle fashion after they made love, and say that he will sent another out to do a task as Soi is still recovering. For me that serves as a sign of him actually loving her.) Due to Nakago’s attention to Yui (see below), she seems to loath Yui, although she still protect her (I think this is only due to Nakago’s orders)

Shortly before she dies, Soi bitterly states to Nakago that it seems she can never get him to truly be with her, and much to her sadness, he agree that it is impossible. I truly think that bit is one of the saddest bit in the whole story. She ends up dying for Nakago, and I think she is happy at how she dies because she actually saves Nakago with her death. In the very same battle which causes Hotohori his life, Taisuki throws a sword at Nakago, and out of instinct, Soi runs to Nakago, causing the sword to be stab into her instead. As she dies, she declares out her love for Nakago once more, as well as reminding him of their first meeting.

When Nakago dies, he sees Soi with his mother, and Soi is stretching her hand out to him. I think that is a sign of how the two of them finally managed to achieve happiness after they die.

Yui Hongo (本鄉唯) –voiced by Touma Yumi
The priestess of Seiryuu, as well as Miaka’s best friend. Now…I dislike Miaka, but I think I dislike Yui so much more. Because not only I think is she selfish, she is also hypocritical. I think I dislike her due to the fact that she doesn’t seem to feel guilty for what she did, even though she expresse some guilt. But her guilt only seem to limit to the celestial warrior Seiryuu, she doesn’t seem to take into account of what she did to the whole kingdom of Konan (I am biased I know, but we later discovers that Konan is having a very hard time recovering as their emperor is dead, and their future emperor is only born months after Hotohori’s deaths.)

Yui and Miaka initially enter the universe of the four gods together, and the two of them managed to leave. Miaka then entere the book herself, and then Yui somehow entere the book too. Unlike Miaka, she end up in Kutou, and instead of meeting her celestial warriors immediately, she met a bunch of thugs and she believe that she was raped. This cause her to be very bitter to Miaka, and she believe that Miaka purposely ignored her, as Miaka did not come to help her at all. Nakago saves her and she arrives in Kutou, and becomes the priestess of Seiryuu.

Miaka actually went to Kutou to find Yui, which made Yui very happy, and she was going to go with Miaka. But she then hears Miaka saying to Tamahome that he is the real reason that causes her to return. Once she hears it, she changes her mind and is dominated with the thought of gaining her revenge by Miaka. In fact, this becomes her main goal throughout the rest of the story. I think the ironic bit is that she gains her goal by betraying Miaka herself, through numerous deceptions. I guess she hold the believe of stopping as low as someone if they stooped that low in the first place. I am not saying this is wrong, but I think Yui is wrong because she never admit this, she keep on pretending that she never betrays Miaka until the very end. Although I suppose to do her one credit: she is not wrong in saying that it is unfair that Miaka is the priestess of Suzaku, as Yui did get the worse deal. She is being manipulated by her celestial warrior, and for many of them they only protect her due to another (eg Soi due to Nakago). But on the other hand, I lose much sympathy for her when she acts as if she did all the hard work when she actually didn’t do anything at all.

At the very end, after she discovers that she wasn’t raped at all, she immediately feels guilty and helped Miaka. And of course all her celestial warrior with the exception of one died, thanks to her, but she gets to go back to her world and lives happily with a new boy friend. Forgive my tone but as mentioned before, I really don’t like either Yui or Miaka.

Nakago –voiced by Furusawa Tōru
The most important celestial warrior of Seiryuu, he is really their leader, and the antagonist of the whole story. He is the general of Kutou, and the one who finds Yui. He saves her from being raped, but does not tell her that she was not raped, as he want to make her hate Miaka, in order to make sure that Yui would be manipulated by him. I think Nakago has the attitude of the end will justify the means, which I seriously don’t like. He commits many acts that are morally wrong, as well as being rather heartless, and even though we discover that he has a very tragic past, I still think that he is wrong. He has a very heavy influence on the rest of the celestial warriors and he is the true mastermind of the story.

Nakago is from the Hin tribe- which is a country destroyed by Kutou. As a result, he and his people are forced to wander, and are often despised. At a very young age he and his mother were attacked, and as a result he first unleashed his powers of a celestial warrior of Seiryuu (he can control energy- making it attack others). Even though he killed their attackers, he also accidentally killed his mother. It seems that he soon ended up in Kutou, and from what the drawings show- he ended up as a sex toy for the emperor. As a result of all that happening to him, he ends up very bitter and cold, vowing to have revenge at the gods for making his life this miserable.

Nakago wants to be a god, to live forever and have unlimited powers. Thus, he sees Yui (the priestess of Seiryuu), as a way to let him achieve this. He made it seem that he help and stand beside Yui for everything, and even declare out his love for her in the end- in a way, his plan worked as Yui said that she would give him one of her wishes (after the priestess summoned their god, they have the power to make three wishes).

Nakago ends up being killed by Tamahome, and it is important to remember that in the manga (which is the author’s full creation), Nakago actually lets Tamahome kill him. As Tamahome struck him the first time, he actually begins to remember what had happened to him when he was little, what he forced himself to forget. As he dies he sees Soi stretching out her hand to him, with his mother- a sign of him finding peace.

I really think that he does love Soi, as I mentioned before, and he actually holds onto Soi’s corpse for a very long time. There are some people who thinks that Nakago love Yui but I don’t believe this, I think he is only using her. I think Nakago is definitely someone who needs a woman who is capable of knowing all that he did, and still accept him, which Yui didn’t and doesn’t. (kind of like Sesshomaru from Inuyasha, that is why I think he and Sango would make a good pair.) He also said that he have no interest in little girls at all when he addressed Miaka, so I think the same apply for Yui as well.

Amiboshi –voiced by Ueda Yuji
He is a celestial warrior Seiryuu but he actually made his first appearance pretending to be Chiriko, being a spy. Due to his presence Suzaku was unable to be summoned by the easy way (using the scroll of Suzaku, this needs to be burned but since all seven celestial warriors were not there, the scroll was basically wasted)

Even though he claims to despise the rest of the Suzaku warriors by saying that they are too noble and nice, he actually yearns to be a celestial warrior of Suzaku. Upon having his real identity discovered, he chooses to jump into a river. Luckily, he survives but ends with amnesia. He was adopted by a couple who had a son who would be his age had he not died. Later on, Miaka found him and he does not recognize her, until the very end- when he asks Miaka to stay with him, and ignore everything by offering a forgetfulness potion to her. (he pretended to have amnesia)

Amiboshi is actually a very peace loving person, and it seems that he only obey Nakago’s orders due to the fact that his brother is with Nakago, as well as hoping that by summoning Seiryuu- everything would be alright. He really wants Kutou to have peace as he could still recollect what he had suffered when he was very young due to war. I think he lost his parents due to war. Since then, he has to look after and protect his brother, Suboshi.

Later on, he attacks Tomo as the other is attacking Miaka. This then cause his twin brother to attack Tomo. Suboshi then makes him drink the forgetfulness potion, by saying that he is too gentle and peace loving to be involved in all these activities that involvs war, so it is best that he forgets. He had no memories of anything related to the celestial warrior of Seiryuu and seems to live with his adopted parents in great happiness, there is even this picture that shows him with a girl who is probably from the village.

He is almost always seen with a flute, this is not only due to the fact that he is able to play the flute, but because he can control people’s will by his flute, as well as using it to attack.

Suboshi –voiced by Ueda Yuji
The younger twin brother of Amiboshi. Even though the two twins are completely identical in appearance, they have very different personalities. He is more rash and more fierce. Due to having no other people other then his brother, he has a very strong love for his brother that is almost scary. He would literally do anything for his brother, including killing. When he thought that his brother was killed by the celestial warriors of Suzaku, he went to kill Tamahome’s family. But then he ends up falling in love with Yui, and his love for her is equally strong as the love he bears his brother, in fact, she is the first person he ever loves beside his brother.

Seeing his brother attacked by Tomo (Amiboshi attacks him first due to Miaka), he actually kills Tomo. Amiboshi then offers to give him the potion of forgetfulness, as he says that is the only way for them to be together again as they were. Much to my surprise, Suboshi actually refuses, as he realizes that he love Yui so much that he isn’t willing to forget her. Due to his love for Yui, he hates Miaka, and plans to rape her as he believes her to be responsible for Yui’s rape (which is what Yui told him), the ironic bit is that this takes place fight after he sees his beloved brother protecting Miaka. In the end he is killed by Tamahome. I suppose I do feel a bit sorry for him, as his love is completely unreturned, and I think he can do better.

Ashitare –voiced by Ryuzaburo Otomo
Initially he appears as a human-beast like creature. Apparently, Nakago had found him in a circus and took him away, therefore he becomes Nakago’s pet. Not much is known about him, and the author herself said that Ashitare is a relief to draw as he really has no character. But now I kind of think that it is a bit of a pity, as he could have had a very interesting story.

He fights with Nuriko twice and ends up killing Nuriko, although Nuriko seriously wound him as well. Nakago explains to Soi that due to the battle the human side in Ashitare got killed, and Ashitare then transforms to a wolf. He still carries out one of Nakago’s order, but as soon as that is done, Nakago kills him.

In regard to Ashitare there is an interesting scene. Nakago was whipping him and Soi actually suggests that he stops as she believes that he has punished Ashitare enough- I think that serves as a sign of Soi actually being a very nice person.

Tomo –voiced by Nobuo Tobita
The thing I remember most about Tomo is that he is another character who ends up being harmed due to the anime’s ‘make Tamahome and Miaka so much more important.’ As well as coming back alive in the first OVA series to be portrayed as an absolute bastard, then to get killed, but as mention before, I don’t like the first OVA, so I am going to ignore it. For me what happened in the manga is what happens in the story.

Like most of his following warriors of Seiryuu, he has a crappy childhood. He is abandoned by his parents when he was born, and taken in by a group of performers. Due to this, he wears what actors in the Chinese opera wear, including having his face painted. This is quite a pity because the real Tomo (without the make up) is actually quite a good looking man. In fact, when I first saw a picture of him without the mask-like make up, I was really shocked! Ok…truth be told, I only got shocked after I worked out who the heck he is.

Tomo seems to be homosexual, as he is clearly in love with Nakago. Like Soi, he does everything because of Nakago. He plans to rape Miaka as a priestess have to be virginal if she want to summon the deity. This is only done due to Nakago, as he says that he actually hates woman, including have sex with them. But the author suggests that if he meets the right woman, then he might be able to fall in love with a woman. It is not certain whether he loves Nakago in the anime, but this is very obvious in the manga. As a result, he and Soi are quite hostile towards each other, but unlike some others, the two can put aside their dislike and work together relatively well. He can create illusions so he made Tamahome think that Soi is Miaka, and Soi then almost managed to kill Tamahome due to the illusion by seducing him. Although he does insult Soi by suggesting that she is a whore (she probably was one, but apparently the word he uses suggest more of her being a loose woman, a slut, instead of just being a woman who provides sexual service for money)

As mentioned before, he is killed by Suboshi, and his dying thoughts are an apology to Nakago.

Miboshi –voiced by Nakazawa Midori
The last Celestial warrior of Seiryu to appear. Little is known about him other then the fact that he is well over two hundred years old, and possesses infants’ body in order to continue living. Other then that, he can also summon monsters. He ends up being killed by Chiriko when Chiriko suddenly manage to control his body after Miboshi possessed it. Basically Chiriko destroys his own body, and by doing so Miboshi has no other body, and so he gets killed.

I think it is very highly that Miboshi might have something to do with the story of the priestess of Genbu (the guardian of Hokkan, another kingdom in the universe of the four gods), as Genbu was summoned about two hundred years ago. This is my version of what I think his past is, which I used in my fan fiction: Buried Memories.

CONTAINS SPOILERS OF GENBU KAIDEN
As we all know, Hakei (the crown prince of Kutou) stated to Uruki that he would not accept the priestess of Seiryuu and her celestial warriors because that would indicate that the country is in danger. I think what happened is that as a twist of fate, he will end up having a son who is a celestial warrior of Seiryuu (ie. Miboshi). As a result, he will try to kill Miboshi, as a taunt towards fate. Due to this Miboshi will be burned with a desire to survive as proof that he can, and will do anything to survive. Which includes possessing others’ body.

Oh my gosh this is such a tiring review…but at least it is finished now. So I am almost finished with my fushigi yugi review, I have only one more thing to do, and that is to talk about the character songs. And of course, I got to correct my numerous grammatical and spelling error first before I get to post this up.

Oh and I almost forget, basic imformations of the celestial warriors of Seiryuu.

Hotohori- voiced by Koyasu Takehito.
Hotohori is my favourite character in the story by far so I am going to start talking about him first even though he is not the most important character, actually the ironic bit is that he started off as a major character, then had to shift to being a minor character. That is one thing about the story that really really pisses me off. It is just not fair. I’ll be using some quotes and unless specifically mentioned, the quotes are said by Hotohori.

Hotohori is the emperor of Konan (the country of Suzaku) and his story is a very sad one. He is only eighteen years old but has been the emperor for the last four years (he is also known as Saihitei, which is his tittle), having reign at fourteen. The main reason that he came to the throne is due to his mother, the empress, as he is not the eldest son of the last emperor, but the third eldest son. His mother had made his early reign rather stained as she killed many people in order to ensure that he is on the throne. As a young boy he had been rather meek as he had let his own mother manipulate him “I become the emperor due to my mother, I was like a puppet”, but he is regarded as a very good ruler by his officials, as he clearly loves his people very much. “His majesty truly was a good man, he was so considerate of all of his people even though he was so young.” ~official

However, being a good emperor becomes his main chain. As an emperor, he owns great responsibility to his people because he is in charge of their life, as a result, he really has little say in his own life. Likewise, being an emperor almost made him an object instead of a person, and he become very lonely despite being surrounded by people- as he described himself, he was like a bird trapped in an elaborate cage, unable to fly. It is due to this loneliness that caused him to idolize and eventually fall in love with the priestess of Suzaku even before he met her, “You are my ideal, I have no interest in any other girls.” because he strongly believes that she would be able to love him as a person, instead of simply idolizing him as the emperor. “Perhaps she can save me from this live, and love me as who I am, not as the future emperor of Konan.”

Initially he has problems travelling with Miaka in search of the rest celestial warriors of Suzaku as he had to attend to the state, but this was solved due to Chichiri, but later on- when the others left to go to the other countries, he has to stay behind, which cause him to become a minor character. “I am the emperor, I can not just go to another kingdom so easily. Also, I have many jobs that I must do.” This is really sad because Hotohori really wants to travel with them in order to protect Miaka. (Initially he was only meant to be the heir instead of the emperor, but apparently the editor of Watase Yuu said ‘Why don’t you just make him the emperor?’, and that was what happened. I really wished the editor had shut up because as the author her self admitted, by making him into the emperor she really limited his character.) Likewise, because of his position he remains an outsider to the rest of the celestial warriors of Suzaku, a really sad thing as he regards them as his equal- following companions. “There is no need to be so formal with me, afterall, we are all celestial warriors of Suzaku who had travelled together.” But the rest does not because they always address him as ‘Hotohori-sama’, the sama being a very formal and polite suffix. I noticed that with the exception of Miaka, everyone calls him Hotohori-sama, although there are times when the others call each other by abbreviated nicknames and even joke around- but Hotohori is usually treated with the ultimate respect.

Throughout the story he constantly thinks of what to do that would be the best for his people. It is revealed that he has signed many treaties with Kutou (the country guarded by Seiryuu) to make peace, although there are some people who regard this as being a sign of weakness. His main wish of having Suzaku summoned is to protect Konan, he doesn’t want to fight because of the lifes that would be lost. “It is not that I am afraid of war, but rather because I don’t want to waste all these lives.” Although he later on regards this as a fault, because he said that he and the people of Konan over-relied on the strength of Suzaku, instead of their own strength. “Since the very beginning we relied too much on the strength of Suzaku and the priestess, we never once thought about using our own strength.” He seems very devoted as we see him praying in front of the altar of Suzaku many times. In the end, he chose to lead his army himself, although he could have got a general to do it, but he did is because he insisted on fighting with his people. “Konan is my kingdom, so I must protect it personally.” Another example of how he sacrifice his own interest for the sack of his people, and this turns out to be the cause of his death. “It is admirable that you, the emperor of a kingdom, has come to battle yourself. Had you stayed in the palace, then you would have been completely safe.”~ Nakago. In fact, the only thing he did wrong as an emperor is probably that he delayed his marriage due to Miaka, even though it is really important for him to have an heir.

Hotohori fell in love with Miaka and unlike Tamahome, he is not afraid of admitting this. He actually declared this out soon after he met her, but unfortunately, his love is never requited. But for a very long time, he continued staying beside Miaka and protecting her even though he understands that she does not and will not love him. “Hotohori…you know about how I feel about Tamahome and yet you still offer to protect me.” ~Miaka. Some people dislike Hotohori on the basis that there is a time when he kissed Miaka against her will, “Do you truly love Tamahome so much? I know that you don’t have me in your heart at all, and to kiss you now…it is wrong. But I…I love you the first time I met you!” as well as proposing to be with her after she believed Tamahome would no longer love her, and being jealous of Tamahome. I think his actions are very normal considering that he is a man who is in love with a woman he know does not love him back. What he did is not fully wrong, and he never did anything that is unhonourable. In the end, Hotohori gives up on Miaka very graciously, wishing the two of them happiness.

I think that he is one of his very good qualities- he is very considerate. Despite how occupied and upset he was throughout the story, he still managed to not only think of his people, as well as ways of helping the rest of the celestial warriors. He does not let his own problems affect anyone else. Even though he must have been upset to know that Miaka will never love him back, he does not usually let that influence in his treatement towards Tamahome, he was the first to welcome Tamahome back after the period which Tamahome was controlled by Nakago. Likewise, he told Tamahome that he would provide for his family. When he and Chiriko (as spirits) visited Chiriko’s family, we discovered that he had actually sent a message to Chiriko’s family to inform them of Chiriko’s death, as well as declaring out that Chiriko is regarded as a hero of Konan.

Hotohori ends up marrying another woman, and I think this bit is very interesting. My own opinion is that there is a bit of a contradiction in the story due to the slight gap between the time volume 14-18 was written. I think initially, in the first story arch, the author made him marry his wife for the sake of marrying her. I think he married her (Houki) for the sake that he need to, which makes him really tragic as he is marrying another for the sake of his duty, as he is unable to abandon his duty for the sake of the one he love. I think this seems a very in character thing for him to do, as even though there are many times when he wants to abandon his duty, he never does. The reason I think that he did not love his wife that much (I think he is fond of her, but does not love her) is because when he is dying, his last words are how happy he is to have meet Miaka and the rest, and his dying last words are, once again, wishing for Miaka to have happiness. “Yes, Houki is waiting for me…and my child…I must at least see my child…before I die…Miaka…there will be a way when we will all meet again…beyond the worlds…beyond time…we will meet again…I am so happy…to have been able to meet you all…Miaka…I am so happy to have meet you…may you have happiness…” As shown, he does think about his wife and their unborn child, but the last words are not of or to her, but of and to Miaka, him attacking Nakago (who kills him) is also mainly due to Miaka, not just because of his kingdom. “I will not allow you to interfere in their (Tamahome and Miaka) lives anymore!” His death is truly one of the saddest and yet most beautiful death in the whole story, but yet there is a sense of him finally having achieved the freedom he always longed for. As he dies, we see a bird flying towards the sky, a suggestion that the bird trapped in the cage is finally free, then we see everyone kneeling down in grief.

But then in the second story arch, the volumes drawn much later on, my views changed when Hotohori (as a spirit) sees Houki and his son, and his guilt at leaving them behind seem to be more then just a guilt caused by not fulfilling the duty of being a husband and father. “I am a bad father as I am not beside you and your mother, but know that I am always thinking of the two of you.” So I think the author initially did not make him love Houki, but then somehow changed her mind. His reasoning for marrying and falling in love with Houki is elaborated in the novel and sadly, their marriage only lasted a month. It really seemed that he gave up on Miaka but he still died, when it seems that he could have been relatively happy with his wife and son. (Personally I think Houki is much better for him then Miaka, I truly think he deserves better, and unlike Houki, Miaka would not make a good empress at all.)

Unlike the rest of the celestial warriors (with the exception of Tamahome and Miaka who married in the very end of the story) Hotohori is actually the one who had married and even had a son. I think this bit is quite symbolic as it made him more mature then the rest, having a family is also a sign of responsibility. From the brief moment he had spent with his son, it seems clear that he would have been a very loving father had he the chance of being one: he obviously loves his son very much. “You are my most precious treasure in this world.” I also feel that he displays a rather fatherly attitude towards Chiriko. He had gently touched the dead Chiriko’s face in a very fatherly way, and also later on, in the second story arch, he was also the one who found Chiriko. He actually brought Chiriko to his family and as they listened to what his family was saying about him, he actually patted Chiriko’s head even as he smiled in a way at chiriko that I could only describe as fatherly-very much like the way he smiled at his own son. I feel that unlike the others, Hotohori was acting more as a fatherly figure to Chiriko- instead of an elderly brother figure. So I think it is a really big pity that he didn’t get raise his own son up, as he would have been such a good father, unlike his own father (from the novel, we find out that his father had been so occupied that he never really focused on his children.)

Hotohori is one of the most beautifully drawn characters I have ever seen in any manga, and the funny thing is that he is also highly vain. I think the reason of his vanity is because it is the only thing he can be certain of, perhaps he does not know whether he truly is a good ruler or so because he can never be sure of whether people is telling the truth or not- but his appearance might just be the only thing he is sure in. I don’t know for sure, that’s just my own interpretation. As I said before, the main reason I don’t like the anime that much greatly relates to him, although Koyasu Takehito is the perfect voice for him. I honestly just can’t stand how they made his hair brown, and he lacks the beauty he has in the manga. But on the other hand, Koyasu Takehito’s performance made it really worthwhile to watch the anime- because he really brought Hotohori alive, his voice is just perfect! That’s what I imagined Hotohori’s voice would be like when I watched the manga! (A funny side-note. After I read the manga my sister told me that Koyasu Takehito is in it, and ask me to guess who he did. My first guess is Hotohori but due to a slight misunderstanding she told me he voiced Nakago and I was really heartbroken because I thought it’ll be such a pity. The reason we made this mistake is because in Chinese, Hotohori and Nakago’s name are pronounced in an almost identical way. )

This seems a very long character profile but I want to let him have a really good one! Hoepfully this one isn’t bad. Onto the others…don’t worry, it would be nowhere near as long as this one.

Once again this is going to be a terribly long review so I might put it up in parts, but I’m not sure just yet. We will see. Well, as I promised I am going to do a Fushigi Yugi review, it definetly deserves one! Format and procedure is still the same, I will try to make the summary bits spoiler free, with the character bits containing spoiler, and put some pictures up in the end.
Technically I have already written a lot about fushigi yugi but it isn’t a proper review, so I really want to do this as to make it proper. (so some stuff may have already been on my blog)

Basic data
Title: Fushigi Yugi (I think it is translated to the mystery play or something like that, which is not really accurate, as it should be something like ‘the dangerous game’ or ‘the dream like game’ or something like that. Because Fushigi is written in hiragana, but Yugi is in kanji, and the author actually wrote yugi as game).
Author: Watase Yuu
18 volumes of manga, 52 episodes of Anime and three sets of OVA.

Origin
My sister got the manga and anime from her friend, who remembered seeing this in Taiwan when she was really little. One day I started to read it and once I did I was really hooked, so I actually finished the whole 18 manga at one go, although I had to re-read the later ones as I read it a bit too fast. But I didn’t get to finish the anime until way later. Since I recently finished all the anime and OVA I thought I’ll finally do the review.

Basic story (spoiler free- I think)
The story centres on Miaka (A 15 years old Japanese girl) who ended up in an alternative universe through a book. This world is very much like ancient China during the feudal time. Once there, in the kingdom of Konan, she is hailed as the priestess of Suzaku, and must find the seven celestial warriors whose job is to protect her, in order to summon the god Suzaku, who would grant her 3 wishes. Initially the story is rather light hearted, Miaka only want to have the three wish for the sake of passing her high school exams, although the emperor of Konan shows the more serious idea of summoning Suzaku to protect his country. As Miaka travels to find her quest, things become worse when her best Yui arrives in the world and become the priestess of Konan’s rivalling country: Kutou, and Miaka also faces fallen in love and have people in love with her. As the story progress, it becomes more serious.

The story is very heavy with Chinese influence- the four gods in the story are all mythological figures in Chinese legends, and the celestial warriors take their names from the twenty eight constellations. If you want to understand more then please go to wikipaedia.

Ok…I think all the rest bits would have spoilers of some sort.

The second story arch have Taka being born into Miaka’s world and everything seem to be well, until one day when Miaka is told by Suzaku that she must go back to the world inside the book (the universe of the four gods) as there is this being Tenkou, who wants to destroy the world. In order to stop him, Miaka and Tamahome must travel with their companion as well the spirits of their companions, and find the stones that contain Tamahome’s memories. By doing so, many of the celestial warriors have to deal with their past, or what their actions has caused in the present.

Manga
there are 18 books, although there are two story arches. The original story really ends after volume 13 but due to reader’s demand, the author drew another story which took 5 books. Personally I like the manga better then the anime because the drawing style of the manga is more beautiful, and I feel the anime focuses on Miaka and Tamahome way too much at the expenses of many other characters. I only like the first half of the first story arch, and some part of the second half because later on my favourite character, Hotohori, faded to the back ground- becoming a minor character instead of a very major character.

Anime
There are 52 episodes the first half deals with what about the first six books? While the second half deals with the rest (Stopping at volume 13). I think the anime was made before even volume 14-18 was published. The anime is good as it sticks to most of the plot without much additional new bit, but as I said before, they left some vital bits out and focused too much on Miaka and Tamahome. The drawings of the anime simply lack some of the beauty the drawing in the manga had, which is a big pity, but I think it is just because Watase Yuu’s drawings are simply more beautiful on paper and due to how she colours it- I read some where that she does the colouring by hand even though many other artists does it by computer nowadays. Well, there are three things that I really dislike about the anime.
1- they made Hotohori’s hair a ugly brown when it should be black. I know it is a very simple thing but I really don’t like it.
2- Nakago’s death is done really bad, for me it kind of shifts from focusing on Nakago to focusing on Tamahome instead. In the manga there is a hint that Nakago actually finds peace because we see him seeing Soi and his mother when he is dying, Soi is reaching to him. There is a strong hint that he would find peace, but the anime just shows him dying, I am really angry with that because I truly think that is a very important bit. The author shows that he is wrong, but not completely evil, and in the end he actually choose to die (not that obvious in the anime) and is suppose to be rewarded by finally having peace.
3- they made Miaka so much more noble, too noble. As in the manga her third wish is actually for her own happiness- to be with Tamahome forever, as opposed to the anime- where her third wish is to heal the damages done to Tokyo.

OVA 1- 3 episodes.
This is meant to deal with what happens in volume 13-18 but I find this OVA completely pointless and there is seriously no point in watching this unless you are a big Tamahome fan, because to put it bluntly, for the first half of the ova all you see is Tamahome wondering around in a sense of confusion. I suppose I am biased because my favourite character didn’t even come out until the last 10 minute of the last episode. But the ironic bit is that even though there is absolutely no point in having the story- they decided to kill two other important and popular characters. Once again, the death of Amiboshi is really unnecessary especially when the manga hint that he finds peace. The only reason I’ll recommend watching this anime is due to the comical twist at the very end or beginning of the ova. It’s a very comical twist of what happens when the main casts go to a hot spring, and at one point we get to see what seems a behind the scene of the voice recording, with the voice actors drawn as their character.

OVA 2- 6 episodes
I actually quite like the second OVA, as I think it really shows the second story arch really well, although the funny thing is that the OVA actually shortened the story slightly- it doesn’t contain as much detail as the manga- usually it is the opposite. Like the manga, all the suzaku warriors are focused in relatively depth with one or two exceptions. But I really like the second OVA series as it illustrates the relationship of Hotohori and Houki so much better.

Novel (not by Watase Yuu)
I don’t really know how many novels there are, but I think probably over seven at least? It focuses on some characters’ past, usually the missing bits of the manga and anime, and there are some that shows what happened after the main story. I found some copies on the internet but I have only read one, because well… I am mainly interested in Hotohori’s story. His story is very interesting as it deals with his past and even some bit of the present, what he was doing in the bits of the manga/anime that he doesn’t come out in. The novel also focuses on Houki at a lot of the time. I read it but much to my surprise, I don’t like it as much as I thought I would, considering that it solely focuses on Hotohori. I think my main criticism of the novel is that it seems so fast paced, and too much action instead of showing what each character is thinking. I probably didn’t like the translator’s translations that much either, so if I could find a proper copy in Taiwan I would buy it, and I think it would be better then the version I have read..

OVA 3- 4 episodes.
The OVA focuses on what happened in the novels. Personally I don’t really like the idea of OVA 3- how there is a new evil in the land which works when this new girl enters the book once again. But the 3rd OVA is definitely worth watching even if it is only for the sake of hearing Houki telling the story of her and Hotohori. When I watched this I decided that it must be the novel’s style because seeing their story in the ova really touched me. If all else, watch the bit when Houki retells the bit in the novel (either episode 2 or 3, I think it is 3), as well as the last bits of the last episode when Hotohori finally get to see his family properly. Also, Houki is drawn really beautifully in the OVA 3.

Alright, it seems that I will need to put this up in parts. Hopefully someone would enjoy reading this and no matter what, please leave a comment! I will try and put up the next bit up soon, since it is almost finished. Next bit is charcters…

Gosh I have gone crazy…yes I really have. First of all why did I stay up to finish doing an Inuyasha 100 question thing and secondly, why am I posting it up when I know that it would include many typos and bad translations. I think this is just a…I want to do it moment so I am posting this up. Those of you who watches Inuyasha might want to do this too!

I got this from my sister (as I tend to get most stuff from her) who got this from someone’s blog…I think. The person who did this 100 question really likes Inuyasha, Kagome, Sesshomaru and Rin, so there are a lot of questions on them (and I also had to make up 2 more questions due to certain reasons). It is originally in chinese so I had to translate the question, and I’ve been doing this in the middle of the night so it won’t be that good a translation. But as long as the main ideas get through right? So anyway, this is why the questions are what they are. I suppose this is a bit like an Inuyasha review?

1. ”Which do you like better, the original manga or the anime?”
I actually like the anime better because when I looked back the manga (which I did just for this questioner) I feel that the manga’s early drawings are not that nice as compared to the latter drawings in the manga- which is the same as anime. So unlike the manga the anime’s drawing style kind of stays consistent, and I think people are drawn better in the anime/latter manga. Also, there are more really funny and sweet stories in the anime.
So…I like the anime better.

2. ”When did you start reading Inuyasha?”
2005- I was waiting for my friend in borders when she told me that she’ll be late, I then start to flip copies of Inuyasha. But I guess I only properly see/read it when I went to Satsuki’s (not her real name but she knows who she is) house and she had rented out the first episodes. So I watched it. So I guess I first properly know the story in December/November 2005. Very very late. I only watched up to 24 though.
Then earlier this year at June I started reading the first 30, and then in November as celebration to exam’s end I finished reading the rest 17 or so, then went to read the rest which are in chapters. I am now reading it every week whenever it comes out, and a week or two ago I have started watching the rest of the anime.
WARNING: will have spoiler then.

3. “What do you think is distinguished about Inuyasha compared to the author’s other works?”
Unlike Ranma 1/2 and mansion Ikoku, it is not as chaotic, while is it more happy then mermaid saga. These three are the only three of Rumiko Takahashi’s stories that I know, so I guess right now I regard it as being different by being more serious, with a much more distinguished plot, people are clearly doing something (as opposed to these three). Ranma 1/2 is really just about new fights Ranma get in, and occasionally with something happening to him and Akane, while mansion Ikoku focus on the two characters’ problem of being together, and Mermaid Saga is just the two of them travelling. So Inuyasha have a more complicated plot.

4. ”Who is your favourite character and why?”
I think my favourite character is Sango, in the sense that I am most concerned about her, what will happen to her. And my favourite bit is when she comes out. As for why she is my favourite character, I mean Inuyasha is the central character and all that but I just don’t like him as much as I like Sango. As for Kagome, I don’t know why but I just never really like her or dislike her strongly. For me she kind of is just there, I like her to the fact that I can feel sorry for her but I don’t care about her that much.

5. “What is your first impression of Inuyasha?”
Why on earth does he have such weird ears?

6. ”Who is your favourite female character and why?”
Well, my favourite character is a female so just see Q4 for explanation.

7. “What do you think is the most hilarious thing with Inuyasha?”
Hmm…when he was in Kagome’s house, and was told to kill a cockroach. The funny bit is that he pulled out tessaiga to do it. I really cracked out when I see the bit (especially when the author pointed an arrow toward the cockroach, which was tiny.)

8. “What do you think is the cutest Inuyasha moment?”
I guess the bit in movie 2 when he was shaking water off-exactly like a dog.

9. “What do you think is Inuyasha’s coolest moment?”
After he saved Kagome from the Noh mask, he was holding his katana while the sun was rising in the back ground…

10. “What is your favourite line said by Inuyasha?”
When he was explaining to Kagome about how he broke his bike, and what he said afterward: “But it doesn’t matter if that is broken, because I’ll carry you.” I just thought that that line is so sweet!

11. “What do you think is the most idiotic thing Inuyasha ever said?”
”If she (Sango) really likes him (Miroku) then why is she always slapping him whenever he touches her butt?” I mean…how dense can you get…

12. “What do you think is the funniest thing Inuyasha ever said?”
“I’ll help you, because we are brothers.” (Episode 72) to that little cat yokai who wanted to become Toutusai’s apprentice. It’s just funny when you think about Inuyasha’s relationship with Sesshomaru- they basically greet each other by attacking one another (the most friendly greeting his brother ever give him is probably saying ‘You are still alive?’ before he attack), and yet here Inuyasha is saying siblings should love and help each other.

13. “Do you think Inuyasha acts in a contradictory way?”
I guess not really, I think he is a rather consistent character who changes due to his development. (growth) I think the person who truly acts in a contradictory fashion is his brother.

14. “What do you think is the good and bad qualities of Inuyasha?”
The good = being loyal and willing to defend those he regard as friends and companions; being a very cute character; does care about other people a lot; and it seems he actually prefer to not kill if possible.
The bad = being too loyal. Thinking that he should die with Kikyo due to what happened fifty years ago; have a tendency to be rather dense at time; not fully realizing the pain he is putting Kagome through due to the whole Kikyo thing; acts with instinct and emotion; not being sensitive enough.

15. “Do you think Inuyasha is fickle?”
Not really, because he truly loves both Kikyo and Kagome.

16. “Do you think Inuyasha will turn to a human, yokai or remain a hanyo?”
Initially I thought he’ll change to a human because that is what he wanted, I defiantly don’t think he’ll be a yokai because he doesn’t want that anymore. But I guess like most people I think he’ll be a hanyo, because there is this whole accepting who you are thing, as well as the fact that Kagome would rather him remain as a hanyo.

17. “What is your favourite scene in regard to Kagome?”
Pushing him to the centre of the bridge, then calling out ‘sit’.

18. “What is your favourite line said by Kagome?”
“Aren’t you meant to be the hero?” (In episode 1 when Inuyasha killed the centipede yokai and then started to attack her) Because that was what I was thinking, I didn’t thought Inuyasha would go psycho and attack her due to the fact that I know that he is the hero of the story.

19. “What do you think is the most classical line said by Kagome?”
Her famous “SIT!”

20. “What do you think is the cutest thing Kagome ever said?”
“Surely he (Miroku) can’t be that bad.” Due to him saying she is pretty, a very cute moment!

21. “Do you agree with Kagome going back to Inuyasha even though he chooses Kikyo?”
I’m not sure about agreeing but I defiantly think she is very brave to do that, although I rather see Inuyasha realising his truth feelings and go to her instead.

22. ”Would you save Kikyo if you are Kagome?”
I will get shot for this but no, I wouldn’t save her. I do not think that I can be that noble in such a situation especially due to the fact that I really feel Kikyo should die for the sake that she is dead, and that she is reincarnated in Kagome. But on the other hand not saving someone is almost like killing someone, and I don’t think I have the courage to do that. Kind of a big dilemma which will probably result in manslaughter as the person would probably have already died when I made my decision.

23. “”Which character do you hate the most, and why?”
Naraku, because he really is such a sadistic bastard. Honestly, he does all these things just for the sake of it being fun… Unlike Onigumo (who at least is in love with Kikyo) he tricks Inuyasha and Kikyo into killing one another for the sake of it.

24. “What do you think of Kikyo?”
Initially I really like the thing between Inuyasha and Kagome because I regard reincarnation as the same as the person being born as who they are. So it’s like the two of them get a second chance. I regard Kikyo as Kagome, and I guess I like Kagome, instead of disliking her. Then Kikyo comes back alive and that is just…weird. That she and Kagome both exist at the same time. I then dislike her when she tries to take Inuyasha to hell with her even after Kagome told her what really happened, you would have expected her to at least show some emotion, and maybe regret at what she did to Inuyasha, but instead she just went “I’m dead so I want him dead and screw it all.” That’s why I find her really hard to like. Later on, she keeps on treating Kagome in what might seen to be a mental way of torturing. Pretending to be really noble and self sacrificial when she is taunting Kagome, I think that is hypocritical because I’ll like her better if she just admit that she doesn’t like Kagome (which is what Kagome did, she admit what she feel about Kikyo- jealousy and even resentment.) but unlike Kagome, Kikyo keep on acting in a ‘poor poor me fashion- my reincarnation is with Inuyasha and she feels negatively at me,’ without admitting the fact that she is not exactly behaving as a saint to Kagome either. She acts as if she is in the full right when she has done wrong too.

25. “Who do you think Inuyasha really love, Kagome or Kikyo?”
Evil face= his brother (get bashed)
Ok, I was joking…I couldn’t help but to say that due to having listening to Muteki and hearing that this person (after hearing Muteki was asked who Inuyasha should be with) and her instinct was: Maybe his brother.
But seriously, I don’t really know how to answer this question because when I first watch Inuyasha my thought was that Kagome is like Inuyasha’s second chance due to what happened. I consider them as the same person.

26. “Who do you think Inuyasha would choose in the end?”
I’m being very good now (see above) Since Kagome and Kikyo are not the same, then I think he would choose Kagome because Kagome accepts him for what he is, she would not want him to be a human unlike Kikyo. Also, she forgives him, and does not want to harm Inuyasha by taking him to die (unlike Kikyo) I think Kagome is those who have the idea of “As long as you are happy then I am willing to suffer” while Kikyo is the “If I am to suffer then I will take you with me”. I say Kagome because I feel she might not have done what Kikyo did.

27. “Which bits do you think show that Inuyasha is actually loving Kagome, and getting over Kikyo?”
When he did not chase after Kikyo even though Kagome saved her, I can’t remember when that bit is though.

28. ”Who do you think is the cutest character?”
Inuyasha- especially when he is drawn in a really cute way, as oppose to a cute-serious way. And the fact that he can be quite dense…

29. “What is your favourite scene with Shippo?”
When he receives the challenge letter in episode 68, his attempt of trying to be brave, but failing to. How he said he doesn’t want the rest to go with him, when he clearly does, and then the bit when he said to Kagome “Are you sure the letter says to Shippo instead of Inuyasha?”

30. “What do you like about Miroku?”
Mainly his rather practical and even mercenary attitude. He doesn’t mind conning and lying to people, then it is mainly due to the fact of he and Sango’s relationship- how he can be really sensitive and kind to her (although he does tend to spoil it by touching her butt at certain times)

31. ”What is your favourite scene with Miroku?”
What he said in regard to the ink painter (episode 17). “Oh, is it for real this time?” when he sees the demon. It’s mainly due to his expression, the fact that he wasn’t scared or panicking in any way, but an ‘It’s bond to happen one day’ expression.

32. “”Why doesn’t Miroku keep his hand to himself when he knows that Sango will slap/punch/hit him?”
In regard to other girls I think it is because it is kind of his instinct, but in regard to Sango I think it is because he really loves her- he really is attracted to her.

33. “What do you think of Sango?”
I really like her because she is very different from women at that time by being a professional yokai exterminator. I think her devotion to her brother is absolutely touching (especially if you compare how she looks after Kohaku as opposed to Inuyasha and his brothers.) I also feel very sorry for her due to the fact that her family are all destroyed, while she also had to face her brother many times, who usually don’t remember her. I also feel sorry for her in regard to the fact that Miroku (who she likes) have a tendency of flirting with other girls, this must be really hard to live with.
Sango is also a really admirable character by continuing to live, especially after all that has happened to her. And one of the most admirable things is that she does not flaunt her tragedy, she simply states it.
However one thing about Sango that can be annoying is that she usually hide her true feeling (kind of like Sesshomaru), this especially happens when Miroku is concerned.

34. “What is your favourite scene with Sango in it?”
When she told her father that it doesn’t matter that Kohaku is not that skilled yet, because she will watch over him. Also most of the bit when she comes out with Miroku, because the two of them are really sweet together.

35. “What is the line you most can’t stand in Inuyasha?”
Whenever Naraku give his ‘Hahaha, you can’t defeat me’ speech.

36. “What do you think about Naraku?”
One sadistic bastard, on top of that he has to look really gross even though the prince whose body he use was actually pretty good looking. I mean, he can look pretty good but he chooses to look really disgusting instead. If you look really gross to began with then it’s a ‘ok…that can’t be helped’ but it’s the fact that Naraku can look really good.
He also seems really bored as he does all these things just for fun, as well as taunting everyone even if he just managed to escape. The typical “haha you should have killed me now” instead of thinking “shit…I almost died” kind of villain. Which get really annoying.
Basically: sadistic, disgusting and I can’t wait for the scene when he finally gets killed.

37. “What do you feel about Kagura?
Initially I didn’t really think much about her, although I did note her for kind of being pretty. (Especially when every other of Naraku’s creation is headed toward gross or disgusting) I think I like her when she didn’t really want to fight Inuyasha (manga). I start to like her when I watch the anime, because the seiyuu really portrayed her really well. In fact, one of my all time favourite line in Inuyasha is actually said by Kagura.
“I am the wind.” Whenever she said that it just makes you want to cry, because it is so sad. I think I like her and I really feel sorry for her and her death is really really sad.

38. “What do you think about Kanna?”
Initially I just thought of her as a mindless machine- even her voice sound dead. But I changed my mind when I saw the bit when she was actually thinking of Kagura. I feel her death is really sad, not as sad as Kagura because of the whole “I struggle for my freedom so much, and it is this?” but because of the fact that she didn’t want to die, but was forced to. Now that I see her appearing in the anime, I feel really sad.

39. “What do you feel toward the baby and Hakudoshi?”
Ewwwwwww, they are Naraku’s creation alright, as well as ‘someone please shut them up!’ In regard to Hakudoshi, his death really shocked me, because I didn’t think that he’ll die so quick, and without much struggle…

40. ”When did you first see Sesshomaru?”
In Episode 5, when he killed a whole camp of people, which led to him using Inuyasha’s mother and him going to kill his brother. Didn’t like him at all, in fact, I was really hoping that he would get killed as I though of his as: crazy bastard who just kills everyone in sight. Then see him make his reappearance when he accepted the arm from Naraku…at that time I really hoped that he would get sucked into Miroku’s wind tunnel (because he was going to kill Inuyasha and Kagome)
I only start to like him better due to the Rin incident and after seeing the third movie. In his case I actually like him better due to the influence of some really high quality fan fiction. I know, I know, this is bad but the damage has been done!

41. Prior to Rin’s appearance do you think that there is any evidence of Sesshomaru being a good person?
Um…no…I really think that until Sesshomaru saw Inuyasha as having transformed to a full yokai, he was willing to kill his brother. I think him seeing Inuyasha being berserk is a turning point, as I believe he started feeling some sympathy for his brother at that moment. But by that time Rin already come out.

42. ”What do you think Sesshomaru’s life philosophy is?”
Initially ”I am always right”, and after he realized that he was wrong (eg, when Rin dies a second time): “Perhaps I am not always right but I still have no need to admit this to anyone else.”
“I have no need to explain my self” remains constant through out the story.

43. ”Which words do you think is not in Sesshomaru’s dictionary and why?”
”I am wrong”, “I can explain”, “I will explain.” See above for explanation.
“Moving out of some one’s way”, “Taking a turn” see Q49 for a detailed explanation.

44. ”How will Sesshomaru explain why he takes Rin around when he made it clear that he really hate humans?”
As mentioned before, he is always right, and even if he is not always right, he has no need to explain himself.

45. “Sesshomaru obviously hates Hanyo, but what would he do if he ever has offspring who are hanyo?”
Basically react in the same way as he feels toward Inuyasha, which is: “Even though my brother is a hanyo, he is still better then most yokai for the sake that he is my father’s son.” Basically as long as anyone have their family’s blood they will be better then the rest.

46. “How would Sesshomaru explain the fact that he ended up doing many of the things that Inuyasha did, which he mocked.”
(see Q44)

47. “Describe Sesshomaru’s purpose.”
1= find his father’s grave, 2= find a new arm/sword, 3= find Naraku

48. “Some people think Sesshomaru’s home is actually a large castle in the West, what do you think?”
Not unlikely, as his mum does live in a palace. And he seems the type of person who might actually live in a palace.

49. ”What do you think is the most ridiculous/unbelievable thing Sesshomaru ever said?”
Whenever he gives his typical command of "Move out of my way.” Or the “Why haven’t any of you left yet” (first appearance)” Because half the time he is the one in the wrong, ie. he should probably take a turn as the humans/yokai in front of him are usually in the middle of having a serious battle, but he make it sound as if they are in the full wrong for not parting to make a path for him. (especially in episode 79)

50. “What do you think is the most idiotic thing said by Sesshomaru?”
In movie 3, when he said “I have nothing to protect” after he just realize who he wanted to protect, and before he did his actions out of protecting someone. I think it is idiotic because it is just such a stupid self denial. It is almost like the famous “I don’t care, when you obvious care.”

51. “What do you think is the best line said by Sesshomaru?”
When he said: “Nothing is worth the price of your (Rin) life.” When Rin dies a second time. That is such a touching line, and is kind of a sign that he really is changing. (and that he is not always right).

52. “What is your favourite scene with Sesshomaru?”
When he sees Inuyasha going berserk (don’t remember where in the manga, but in the anime it should be episode 52) because he actually looks sad as he sees what happened with Inuyasha.

53. ”Compare the way Sesshomaru is drawn in the manga and anime”
I don’t really like how Sesshomaru is drawn when he first come out, as now that I look back at it, he is drawn rather different then how he is drawn later on (which is very much like how he is drawn in the anime.) When he first come out he seems younger as well as shorter, he seems more of a boy then a man, as oppose to how he is drawn in the latter books and the anime, when he looks really cool, and more as a man who is rather tall. But then, most of the characters look rather different if you compare then to the way they were first drawn. I was actually really surprised when I re-read the first few manga.

54. “Inuyasha is a hanyo, but why will Sesshomaru, a full yokai, be tangled up with a human?”
Because by being involved with a human in whatever way, is a way of learning compassion, because humans are weaker then yokai.

55. “Out of everyone’s comment in regard to Sesshomaru, which one is your favourite?”
Toutusai’s: “These two stupid brothers” because that is one of the lines that first made me realize how similar the two brothers actually are.

56. “Do you think Sesshomaru is smart?”
I think he is smart, although you don’t really see it, as 99% of the time his strategy is just going up and kill whatever in his way, or annoy him. But it seems that he is smart.

57. ”What do you think is the most distinguishing thing about Sesshomaru? “
He is the only yokai who can catch Kagome’s arrows. While actually that bit really show how powerful he is as even Naraku got affected when Kagome shot him. Actually it’s almost funny…isn’t the saying doing something with your bare fist? In his case he did is with his bare fingers…Have to admit though, that bit is way too cool…

58. “Do you like or dislike Rin, why?”
I guess I like her, because she is just such an innocent and sweet little girl!

59. “What do you think is the bravest thing said by Rin?”
I don’t know about the bravest thing said, but I think the bravest thing she did is to give Sesshomaru food when it is clear that he is a yokai.

60. “What do you think is the cutest thing said by Rin?”
“She (Kagura) must like Sesshomaru-sama, because she keeps on praising him.” It just seems too cute, as well as whenever she praises Sesshomaru, because she truly thinks what she is saying.

61. “What is your favourite scene with Rin?”
In episode 96 when Rin went to Jijenji in order to get herbs to save Jaken. Upon Jijienji’s mother’s question of “Are you perhaps attracted to that yokai that you want to save?”, I really like her innocent reaction of asking “What does that mean?”

62. “Which bits show the development of the relationship between Rin and Sesshomaru?”
When she knows that Sesshomaru would save him, instead of wandering whether he would save her, and when she began to call out to him for help/

63. ”What is the relationship of Sesshomaru and Rin?”
I think it is a father and daughter one, although it still kind of dysfunctional. I did consider that it might get romantic about ten years later but now…not really. I really think Sesshomaru would make a good couple with someone like Sango (See Q99 for more elaboration) Someone really strong willed because I don’t think he would want his future partner to be that submissive although I suppose it is possible that opposite might attract.

64. ”Would Rin choose Kohaku- provided that Kohaku can be alive somehow?”
I think this is a great possibility, and also…if Sango and Sesshomaru do end up together somehow, wouldn’t it be really cute if Rin and Kohaku becomes a couple when they get older? Vice versa.

65. “Jaken always said that ‘if something happen to Rin, then Sesshomaru-sama would kill me,” do you think he would?”
No, because by the time he cares that much about Rin, Sesshomaru had changed greatly. At least greatly changed from someone who would randomly kill someone just because he’s pissed.

66. ”What do you think Sesshomaru feels toward Kagura?”
I don’t think there is something romantic but I think he does feel some sort of maybe pity for her for some strange reason, but I don’t think it will led to a romance.

67. “What do you think Inuyasha feel towards Sesshomaru?”
I think he doesn’t like his brother due to the fact that Sesshomaru would kill his companions without a second glance, while he also resent Sesshomaru for having known their father, which led to the possibility of him hating Sesshomaru as his brother was trying to get Tessaiga, which is one of the only few things Inuyasha have of his father.

68. “Since Sesshomaru seem to hate Inuyasha so much, then why does he keep on addressing himself as Inuyasha’s elder brother?”
I think much as he hates to admit it, he does regard Inuyasha and him as siblings due to the fact that they do share a father, which is unchangeable.

69. “Why did Sesshomaru stop being Inuyasha’s enemy?”
Because he got over the whole tessaiga thing, and then maybe he just couldn’t be bothered because he is too occupied with doing something else (finding Naraku, finding a better sword). Although not being Inuyasha’s enemy only means not killing him on purpose, if he accidentally meets him then it seems alright (like the time when he got Tokijin and in episode 96)

70. “What does Sesshomaru feel toward the fact that Inuyasha chopped off his arm?”
I think it is the “If anyone is going to chop my arm off, then it might as well be my half-brother, because he is my father’s son.”

71. “Do you think Sesshomaru and Inuyasha will make up one day?”
Much as I’ll like it I don’t think there will be a time when the two brothers will embrace each other and weep and apologize at the same time. I think the closet they can get will be the two brothers meeting up, and greet each other properly before they go on separate ways. And people will only know that they actually meant something to the other if one gets injured, as the other will probably step in, although I doubt they would ever admit they are helping the other.

72. “Who do you think is stronger out of Sesshomaru and Inuyasha?”
Sesshomaru (after all, he is the only person who can catches hama no ya - the demon destroying arrow.) And he seems to know how to use tessaiga better then Inuyasha. But as for why Inuyasha would win... I think Sesshomaru was surprised when Inuyasha first use wind scar, and in a way Inuyasha have more determination because he want to protect someone. (In fact, there are bits in the story that shows the theme of protecting someone.)

73. “What do you think Inunotaisho will feel if he knows that his two sons were fighting in his grave?”
“Do they really think of me as their father if they show no scruple in fighting on my grave?”

74. “What do you feel about Sesshomaru’s mother?”
One of the characters that really shock me, because she seems very well off and there is no trace of a discarded woman. So I guess her relationship with Sesshomaru and Inuyasha’s father is either a political one, or has already ended when their father met Inuyasha’s mother. She seems very capable and strong, although a bit scary. But it seems that she clearly cares for her son, although she would be one of those females who do not easily say what they feel.

75. “Kagome is a human, while Inuyasha is a hanyo, so the two of them can not grow old together, what do you think they would do about this?”
If Inuyasha doesn’t turn into a human then I think maybe the shikon shard can do something that might make Kagome have the same life span as Inuyasha.

76. “Who do you think will die next?” (as I answer this, Kanna is the latest person who died)
1 (person I think is most likely to die) = Koga, despite the fact that he no longer have the shikon shard, because he seem the type of person who would die. I can just imagine him dying in the final battle with Naraku with an “I love you, Kagome, therefore I am happy to die for you” with his eventual acceptance of “Inuyasha, I actually don’t hate you, and I hope that you and Kagome will achieve happiness together.” Koga just seem that type of person.
2 (next person) = Kaede, she is old and one of the few people left who recollect the whole Kikyo and Inuyasha thing. I don’t know, I just feel she might die, because she will die in content.
3 (Kohaku) = he has the final shikon shard and I don’t see how Naraku can be defeated without the shikon shard being whole again.

77. “Do you think any one in Inuyasha’s gang would die?”
I hate to say this but if one of the members of the gang would die, then I think it would be Sango.
a= Inuyasha and Kagome simply can’t die, I don’t think the author can be hard enough to make her two central characters die.
b= Miroku would not die because it would just be pointless if he dies due to the fact of the wind tunnel, also, I think he is the type of man who would be wiling to marry or just have a child with a woman he doesn’t love for the sake of having an heir. So if Sango does die, I think he would still manage to produce an heir even though he’ll probably spend the rest of his mourning. (If he is the type of man who would never be willing to have a child with a woman he doesn’t love then I don’t think Sango would die, because if he has no heir despite the fact that Naraku is defeated then there is just no point.) I am not saying that Miroku is not faithful or anything, but rather I’m saying he is willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of his family- which is very admirable.
c= I just don’t think Shippo would die, kind of…I don’t see a point or reason for killing him.
d= there is this whole Kohaku being controlled so I think Sango might end up dying with Kohaku, or for him as she want to save him.

78. “Do you think there are contradictory bits in Inuyasha?”
As someone mentioned, how is it possible for Inuyasha’s father to be mortally injured with his battle against Ryuukotsusei if his son can kill it with what seemed relative ease? Also, why doesn’t Sesshomaru ever really mention the fact that Inuyasha chopped his arm off? I mean, not once did he say “Inuyasha, suffer for the fact that you chopped my arm off.” I mean, that is a logical thing to be angry with.

79. “Do you think Kagome and Inuyasha might not be able to get together because they are from two different worlds?”
No, if she can get there then it means that they can be together.

80. “What do you think the ending will be?”
Kagome would stay in Inuyasha’ time and eventually become the priestess of the village when Kaede dies, and occasionally visits her family by the well.

81. ”Which weapon do you think is the best?
Tenseiga, because it is the only weapon that let you literally resurrect someone! Then I’ll have to say tokijin- despite the fact that it is evil- as you can just wave it and overpower others by the sword’s aura. Sweat drop…how come they are both Sesshomaru’s weapons? Accident! Accident!

82. “Why does hanyo tend to have a yokai father who dies early?”
Maybe because yokai tend to be killed although it doesn’t make sense that much. I guess it is because male yokai tend to end up being killed as they defend their offspring and wife. As mentioned below- male yokai who have off springs with human might not always be powerful, while it seem yokai female who have children with humans are usually really powerful.

83. “Why does most hanyo have a human mother instead of a yokai mother?”
I think it might be due to the fact that female yokai are more strong and capable, so we don’t get to see their children wondering around as opposed to human mothers (we don’t know about them), who will die earlier too. And as mentioned above, yokai fathers seem to die early. It seems that if a female yokai would have a child with a human, then she must be really powerful.

84. “In your opinion, what is the dodgiest line in the story?”
I can’t answer this one because right now I truly don’t know.

85. “List your five favourite seiyuu in Inuyasha and explain why.”
1 = Yamaguchi Kappei (Inuyasha) He really make Inuyasha a very lively character and even if you don’t like Inuyasha at all, you have to applaud how he manages to growl exactly like a dog! (Not to mention how he did his cute cute voice in episode 65 -it’s just like his Ran voice in Sukisyo).

2= Narita Ken (Sesshomaru) in the anime Sesshomaru is always shown as a cold and aloof character and Narita Ken really did really well with his voice, but he also did well enough to not make Sesshomaru seem lifeless, he is just…cold, but his voice really matches the character’s appearance.

3= Morikawa Toshiyuki (Naraku). He really made Naraku sounds so evil evil, the smugness and the coldness, along with the cruelty.

4= Kuwashima Houko (Sango). I can’t really explain this but I just feel she sounds so nice when I heard her Sango. Her voice contributes to making Sango strong, yet vulnerable. (On a side note- the seiyuu sings really beautifully!)

5= Ogami Izumi (Kagura) For me, she made Kagura into a 3D figure instead of a 2D one. She naturally did the voicing acting really well…as I said before, one of my favourite line of Inuyasha is actually when Kagura says “I am the wind”. The voice actor manages to give a sense of tragedy as she said this.

86. “How many Inuyasha films have you seen?”
Just the second and third one.

87. “Which movie is your favourite?”
I like the third one because of the plot, I don’t really like the plot of the second one especially when it made me feel really sad- everyone believe that Naraku is destroyed only to realize that it is a plan. On top of that, Naraku did not appear in the third one at all and came out from Kohaku in a really disgusting fashion in the second movie. Instead, we have Sesshomaru coming out- I suppose most people would rather look at Sesshomaru instead of Naraku given the chance…

88. “List out the main things that you don’t like in Inuyasha?”
Naraku never dying, but I guess that can’t be helped. So I guess the main criticism I give is that the yokai are often really disgusting. But apart from that I have no major complaint.

89. ”How do you pay tribute to Inuyasha?
By watching Inuyasha and reading the manga. As for other…reading fan fictions. (Initially only Sango x Miroku ones, but now I’ve switched to Sango x Sesshomaru ones. There are some really good ones too! For a more detailed explanation see Q99.) And I actually started to write a fan fiction- I consider that the ultimate tribute. And the only other anime which I have done this is Fushigi Yugi and in a way, Sukisyo.

90. “What would you like to say to Inuyasha?”
“It is not a sin to love another person, so you should stop beating yourself about it.”

91. ”What would you like to say to Kagome?”
“Have you thought about having a dog?”

92. ”What would you like to say to Miroku?”
“Considering that your fiancée is a professional yokai exterminator, is it really a good idea for you to continue flirting with other girls, even if it is only parasexual?”

93. ”What would you like to say to Sango?”
“Don’t be afraid of beating up Miroku if he ever cheats on you, no one will blame you in anyway.”

94. “What would you like to say to Shippo?”
“It is not your fault that everyone else is more powerful then you. After all, Inuyasha is the son of a very great general, while Kagome is the reincarnation of a powerful miko. As for Miroku- you probably wouldn’t want the wind tunnel, while Sango achieved her skills though a lifetime of training.”

95. “What would you like to say to Sesshomaru?”
Initially: “You are not always right”, then: “Will it really kill you to not look so cool all the time?”

96. “What would you like to say to Rin?”
“You are actually the only person being treated this nicely by Sesshomaru.”

97. “What would you like to say to Jaken?”|
“After all these years of Sesshomaru, haven’t you learnt when to shut up in order to not make him angry?”

98. “What would you like to say to Naraku?”
“Are you really enjoying your life by being hated and cursed by 99% of the world?”

99. ”What is the thing that you most want to see in Inuyasha?”
Hmmm…I can divide this into two categories. Something that I would like to see that would be possible as oppose to something that I want to see, even though it is impossible.
Well…what I really want to see in Inuyasha is something that would never happen, and that is…Sango and Sesshomaru ending up together (I can’t help it! I think they will be a really good couple! They’re both really strong and yet they have the tendency to hide what they really want to say. There is also the irony that he is a yokai while she is a yokai exterminator.) Must admit… (sweat drop)…I have been reading a lot of Sango x Sesshomaru fan fictions. I mean, I still like the Sango and Miroku pairing but I just think she and Sesshomaru makes a better paring (they are the weirdest paring I have every supported because there really is nothing going on between them. But still…)
As for what is possible…I can’t wait to see Naraku finally getting killed. He is such a sadistic bastard! (On top of that he had to make himself looking really disgusting.)

100. “Explain why you like Inuyasha?”
This is really hard as I don’t know how to answer it…but I guess I just like it! It is a good story, certainly make me want to know what will happen~

That is about it, I should really be going to sleep. Gosh…work today/tomorrow? I don’t really know due to the fact that it is 2 am but I don’t feel like it is a day until I wake up. Not looking forword to work as I think I’m jinxed. On Wednesday I burnt myself while I cut myself on Thursday when I was washing a knife. I think something bad is going to happen…(sobs). It is just so ironic that I am working in a food stall when I can hardly cook…the ironies of life…
But I hope to update soon with a review for Fushigi Yugi!

I am so sad that only two people really leaves me any comment on my blog. (sniffs tragically) Although I have to admit, I tend to get carried away with my reviews so much, Yami no matsui was only meant to be a very short review but the result was the opposite of what I intended to have. Anyway, I want to take some time off before I start doing an another review as it will be a big one: Fushigi Yugi, although it is just possible that what I intend to be long will be short instead. My life clock is so screwed up right now. Because my workmate is away (going back to China) I am working for most of the week, although it is only a few hours per day, not full full time. But somehow…this caused my life clock to go berserk. I have a bad habit of wanting to do a lot of stuff I finished working (like my fan fictions) which tend to make me sleep really late, as a result I’ll get up really late and then after a few hours I’ll be going to work.

In short…autumn leaf’s life clock or what will be her life clock.
*Around Noon-wake up.
*Time in between…I spend it somehow.
*5pm-work time
*9 or so-go home
*up to midnight: watching Inuyasha with my sister (I know, I am really bad as I have got really addicted to Inuyasha)
*After midnight- start working with my muse (including my fan fictions) as well as going on the internet. I’ve been using the internet a lot at night time lately as it is easier at that time, usually we have like an internet battle!
I really should try and break the cycle! Gosh that maybe a bit over the top…sounds really bad. 

I have been so lazy in regard to updating my blog even though I should be updating a lot, as I am on holiday. This is due to the fact that right now I am addicted to the game "Baldur's Gate". Whenever I open up my computer I would be playing Baldur's Gate instead of typing. (my muse has been scolding me so much as I have hardly done any writing) but anyway...my sister got me this questioner and I am answering this for her.

DESKTOP QUESTIONER

1. What is your operational system?
Window XP

2. Is this your personal computer, or one from work?
Well I typed this out on my private home computer but I posted this on my blog through my mum's computer, since I can't go on the net with my own computer.

3. What is this wallpaper about and where did you get it from?
I got this wallpaper from my sister- it is a screenshot of Sukisyo (from the anime).

4. How often do you change your wallpaper?
Depends, if I have more then one thing that I want to use then I will do it on a weekly base. On average I supoose every fortnight or so?

5. How many icons are there on your desktop?
Only six- me very proud of that.

6. Will your personalise your icons?
If I know how I guess I would, I think that would look quite cool!

7. Can you stand a lot of files and extra stuff all over your desktop?
No, I really don't like...can't stand having a lot of icons on my desktop, as that tend to cover most pictures up.

8. Any particular rule you insists on?
Well, at the very most I will not have more then one row of icons.

9. Did you specifically tidied up your desktop just to answer this survey?
I was tempted to change my wallpaper but I changed my mind.

SLEEP QUESTIONER
11/9/06 11:40 am

And I also got this other questioner from her for sometimes and I completed but for some reason I didn't post this up. I thought that I might as well post it up now...

SLEEP QUESTIONER
1. When do you usually sleep? Depends, sometime I get really tired and actually go to sleep before eleven, at ten or so. But most of the time with university I sleep at between eleven and twelve, although I sometimes sleep even more late at holidays.

2. What do you wear to go to sleep? Pyjamas, although I sometimes wear my sarong as my pyjama.

3. What do you do before you sleep? I don’t have any thing I do before I go sleep, other then taking off my contacts? I don’t think that counts though. But because I don’t like to do anything when I don’t have my contacts on, I just go and lie on my bed straight away. Although I had text a few times when I lie on bed in free text weekends.

4. What colour is your bed? Brown- since it’s made from wood.

5. What do you have on your bed? A lot of my clothes, and a stuff toy (a horse named Andre) other then the basic blankets and pillow.

6. Do you sleep on your sides on your back? I do both, but usually I like to sleep on my sides.

7. Do you listen to music as you sleep? Definitely, I do this a lot, especially when I can’t sleep as despite psychology, it really helps me.

8. What type of music do you listen to? Usually Bruno Pelletier’s music, but I’ve been listening to Josh Groban lately as well.

9. Do you think of anything before you sleep? Definitely, all the time. Sleep is the time I get to think and relax the most.

10. What type of things do you think about? Sometime it stress about daily life, but most of the time I like to use this time to think about my stories, and often crazy fan fiction that will only ever be in my head.

11. What do you do when you can’t sleep? This happens a lot so there are two things. Usually I just switch my radio on and listen to music even as I continue to think of stories and fan fictions. If I really can’t sleep then I will actually get up.

12. What happens when you suddenly wake up and can’t go back to sleep? I usually can go back to sleep very easily if I wake up.

13. At midnight, when your cell phone suddenly rang, who do you think it would be? If it is midnight Friday then it is 99% my sister, but for all other times, probably Kahiro.

14. Would you sleep with the light open? No, I have never done this before and I don’t think I will either, it just seems too weird.

15. What will you do when there is suddenly an earthquake when you are about to get to sleep? Eh…no idea, freak out? Scream?

16. If you suddenly get awake due to noises below your bed, what do you think it would be? Oh, most likely my dad, because his room is right below mine.

17. (continue from question 16) After you know what it is, what would you do? Go back to sleep.

19. When you are in the middle of sleeping, and suddenly got called up by someone, what do you think it would be? Time to wake up.

20. (continue from question 19) What would you do? Go back and sleep until I get called a second time.

21. Do you dream a lot? No, I only remember a few dreams occasionally.

22. What is your most memorable dreamt? Hmm…the dreams that I remember are always quite weird or strange or really nice, but I think my most memorable dream is when Bruno Pelletier (my favourite singer) was a vampire and I was kidnapped by a bunch of vampires. He actually bit me/sucked my blood, it was like a needle (sharp but large) stabbing into your neck.

23. (don’t know to how to translate)

24. If you can sleep with anyone, then who would you sleep with? What a rated question…I probably have an answer but I will not share it.

25. Who do you want to see asleep? The person in the above question.

26. Do you hug anything to go to sleep? Sometimes my stuffed toy- the horse- on my bed, but other times I just pushed him off the pillow.

27. What type of bed do you like to sleep on? Soft ones. My mattress used to be super hard. I didn’t know how bad it was until I got a softer mattress.

28. What will you do if you suddenly get hungry when you are half sleeping? I will try to ignore it although I’ll probably end up thinking about food a lot and if I remember this the next morning, I’ll probably buy and/or eat the food I was thinking about last night.

29. How would you feel if someone told you that you would not live over eighteen in your dreams? I think I would be a bit worried when I first wake up, but then I’ll realize it is a dream and not care that much.

30. Where do you want sleep the most? In a very decorated chamber in a castle. Or maybe in a cottage in the middle of a forest.

31. How is your sleeping posture? No idea…all I know is that I often cover myself from the face with my blanket.

33. (continue from question 32) what did you say? Once, I was spelling out apple.

34. If you discover that you are not sleeping on your bed, where do you think you would be? Probably at my friend’s house, having stayed the night there.

35. If you can compose a single dream, what would it be? Hmm…once more…not telling although I have an answer!!! 

36. If your stomach suddenly began to hurt in the middle of your sleep, what would you do? Go to the bathroom.

37. When would you want to go to sleep? When I am really really tired…or when I have lost all hope, then I just want to lie down and sleep to forget everything.

38. Have you sleep in places other then your home? Well, my friends’ house when I stay a night there, on the bus or car when I am really tired, and I have fall asleep in woman’s space once.

39. What will cause you to sleep outside your home? When I am not home.

40. Who do you sleep with? What a question…I am very innocent, I sleep by myself.

41. Can you get up by your self? When I have to I actually can get up quite early, but it is hard. But I force myself to get up early for exams and studies before exams. (this only happens for very rare occasions.)

42. What is the first thing you do when you get up? Look at the clock to see if I can lie on my bed a bit longer.

43. When you wake up, do you think that you had a good sleep? Depends, if I didn’t get enough sleep and still have to get up then I would say no.

44. Sleep early and wake early, wake late and sleep early, sleep early and wake late, sleep late and wake late, which one are you? Definitely the last one. For a long time I tried to be the first one but it just don’t work.

45. When you see that your hair is an absolute mess once you get up, what would you do? I guess I’d brush it, unless I’m staying at home the whole day and am feeling really lazy then I might not be stuffed.

46. When do you usually get up? In Semester 2 it’s between ten and eleven during the weekends. Differs in the weekdays as I sometimes have class at 12, other times 1, and even at 8.

47. Do you have a tendency to stay in bed and not get up? Nod, a very severe case too.

48. (don’t know to how to translate)

49. What is ‘sleeping’ to you? A way to rest and forget about every thing else.

50. List five people that need help in sleeping? A lot of people? I don’t know…I know I do, and Satsuki probably does too.

Be prepared as this will be a very long entry as I am just going o shove every thing in together in this one entry. Note that I deleted the weekly in the original title because I realized that I obviously had not done it weekly. Originally I was going to do Ayashi no Ceres but then changed my mind as I want to do Fushigi Yugi first, after having watched all the anime and the last OVA recently, but that will be such a long entry so I changed my mind and decided to do a review on Yami no matsuei first, as it would be quite short.

Basic data
Title: Yami no matsuei (commonly translated to Descendants of Darkness)
Author: Yoko Matsushita

Origin
My sister downloaded the manga as she got the anime from her friend, originally I wasn’t that interested in it was Koyasu Takehito was not in the anime, but one day I got really bored and I happened to see the manga in our family computer so I decided to give it a flip and upon doing it I thought the story was quite good so I started to read the rest and then since the anime was already there I started to watch it.

Basic story (spoiler free- I think)
The story is about a bunch of Shinigami who are gods of death and they are like officials in the underworld and the story involves them trying to solve numerous mysteries that range from murder to simple incidents in daily life. Most of the cases are quite serious but there are also many light hearted bits that are rather funny, usually the daily incidents. One of the most interesting things is the slow discovering of the character’s past- which we find are all tragic. This is not a fully happy story although it is funny. This is really as much as I can type without giving away spoilers.

Manga: there are eleven volumes to the manga and as I mentioned above they involves the Shinigami trying to solve cases. The main character is Tsuzuki, and most times the story centres around him with his partner Hisoka, although it is important to note that in the very first story Tsuzuki was only intended to be a very minor character. The manga is not finished as the author stopped because she broke up with her boyfriend or something like that. Understandable that she would feel upset but it is still so irresponsible!

Anime: there are thirteen episodes and they basically are just some selected cases of the story, the main ones. The thing about Yami no Matsuei is that it doesn’t seem to have an overall story arc, I mean, an over call connection. I am not that good with summaries, especially if it have to be a spoiler free way.

Recomandation: I guess I’ll just say that I’ll recommend it if you want to read something that would make you laugh, and the anime does get very gripping in the very last episodes. So it is good. But a word of warning, it is not going to be a happy happy story all the way, as it does get very sad at parts. And of course, the story is still unfinished although the anime is finished (but what kind of ending is that? I am so angry with the anime’s ending). The author did announce in 2006, that after three years of halting the manga, she will continue to draw it.
I now move onto the character section, which hopefully should be more interesting, but they will contain spoilers.

Characters (Contains spoiler)

Tsuzuki Asato (都筑 麻斗)- voiced by Miki Shinichiro (please look at the review for Sukisyo to see what he is in. When I first saw Mike Shinichiro live he was dressed in a very trendy way so I thought that he was someone who dressed himself quite well, but then I found that this is not true, in fact it is the opposite. His fashion sense is absolutely scary. In one concert he came out in a bright red leather or PVC outfit, and there were prints on the coat…absolutely scary. Then in another concert he was wearing what seemed like a bright blue nylon outfit. Shudder shudder)

Tsuzuki is the main character of the story, although initially he was only the side kick of the main character, but then the author decided to make him as the main character. Most of the story involves him investigating in various cases, as well as numerous extra adventures that happened to him.

Initially he seemed a very comical character, very cheerful and rather easy going. But this revealed to be fake as the story hints that he had done many wrong things, which seemed to be mass murder. It is not fully certain whether he did it on purpose or not, but it is clear that he is deeply tormented. There are even believes that he had killed his sister at eighteen, which might have been the cause of his break down. He was taken to the hospital which was run by Muraki’s grandfather and for the next eight years he would repeatedly try to kill himself. Later on, it seemed the Tsuzuki might not be fully human, as Muraki (see below) points out the unusualness of his purple eyes, as well as showing that during the last eight years of his life, Tsuzuki had not aged, and not only that, his body would heal even though he was repetitively trying to kill himself.

A more comical aspect to Tsuzuki’s character is that he is very fond of eating, and he always spends most of his wages in buying numerous foods. However, despite this he is a very horrible cook, as everyone say that his food is completely uneatable, even if it was something like instant curry.

Despite being questioned by the rest of his workers about his skills as he had remained in the same post for about seventy years or so, Tsuzuki is rather powerful as he can summon twelve Shikigami (I guess they are kind of like familiars) when most people can only summon two or three the most, on top of that his twelve shikigami are also the most powerful ones (apart from a random pot like thing. In the last two book of the manga he and Hisoka actually travelled to the world of the shikigami and we get to meet all his shikigami and most are very powerful- with the exception of the random pot like thing)

Kurosaki Hisoka (黒崎 密)- voiced by Asano Mayumi (also in Ayashi no ceres as Suzumi Aogiri, and as Arachne in Angel Sanctuary and Tomoko Yamada in Angelic Layer)
Hisoka is Tsuzuki’s current partners (the shinigami usually work in pairs) he died when he was only sixteen years old due to sickness and he want to become a shinigami to work out the cause of his death, which he believe to be a curse. He have powers that let him feel the emotion of others, read their thoughts as well as even seeing their memories (I guess you can say that this is true empathy and he actually make one realize how empathy can be a real curse- his parents would shut up in a cellar sometimes due to their fear of his powers.

Later on Hisoka discovers that he was cursed by Muraki (evil bastard) because he witnessed Muraki killing someone. The curse was not an instant death, but a slow and painful one (sadistic bastard)

In the last story in the anime Hisoka saves Tsuzuki from killing himself, as Tsuzuki wanted to die due to the depression that Muraki caused, as well as believing that he would bring others more trouble by living. I don’t like Hisoka that much but what he said to Tsuzuki is really good “If you don’t have anyone to live for, then live for me.” Even though he seems rather cold in the very beginning, Hisoka actually come to care very much for those around him, especially Tsuzuki. There is a suggestion that Hisoka would be Tsuzuki’s last partner because he is the only one who can truly help Tsuzuki as he is turning away from Tsuzuki’s pains.

Hisoka is also a very serious character, and this cause many comical bit in the story.

Muraki Kazutaka (邑輝 一貴) – voiced by Hayami Shō (who is Ashura-oh in RG Veda and Koji Nanjo in Zetsuai. I first saw this random clip my sister downloaded that shows some of the seiyuu in the anime talking about their characters and when he come out there was this really spooky music and it was just such a ‘evil villain coming up setting!’)

Muraki is the main villain of the story, although he is note the overall evil bastard of the story, as some of the other stories involved demons and others. To be brutally honest I think Muraki is a bastard as well as a pervert. Well, granted that he is almost angelical if you compare him with Tsuyuki Satoshi in Muteki na Bokura but regardless of other’s actions and whether you really mean what you say, you are a pervert as long as you behave like one. As you can tell I really don’t like Muraki.

Initially Muraki seemed to be a good character as Tsuzuki first met him in a church, and Muraki seemed to be mourning at his inability of saving one as he is a doctor (hypocrite). Muraki is actually a serial killer and despite some people’s claim, I don’t think it’s like a Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde thing. I think he is a bastard full stop who is always fully aware of what he is doing. In the end he began to kill in order to draw the attention of Tsuzuki, this is because he want to gain Tsuzuki’s body in order to resurrect his dead half brother in order to kill his half brother himself over and over again. (Granted that his half bastard is a bastard too but I mean, is this normal?) I turned out that Tsuzuki used to be his grandfather’s patient and that is why he knew about Tsuzuki’s strange body.

He is a human but strangely enough, he possesses many powers that are not normal. In the end he kidnapped Tsuzuki by literally going to the underworld and he was about to begin everything when Tsuzuki woke up and stabbed him, then summoned one of his shikigami to burn everything down, as well as killing himself. Because shikigami are generally not able to die again, with the exception of that shikigami’s fire. But what really pisses me off is the fact that Hisoka told Tsuzuki that Muraki did not die. I suppose I can come to terms with this in the manga more because the story has not stopped, so it is understandable that he might come out again. but I am really angry that they didn’t kill him in the anime because the anime is finished and it just ends with Hisoka telling Tsuzuki that Muraki is not dead. If they are not going to continue with the anime then why can’t they kill the evil villain! Not fair not fair!

Throughout the story Muraki also flirts with Tsuzuki in various ways (which is why I say that he is a pervert), his often talks to Tsuzuki with very heavy innuendos and lines that are just plain gross at times. Even though it does not seem that he actually is interested in Tsuzuki in any romantic fashion it is still pretty sickening, so that is why I think he is a pervert. Although the manga reveal that he is actually engaged, but not much is actually known about her. In the last manga I think there is a scene where Muraki’s friend (who owns a brothel and help Muraki by covering up many of his crimes) is talking with his fiancée.

The above three characters are the main main characters of the story but there are also some minor characters who are quite important, or at the very least, rather distinguished. I guess they are major minor characters? I can’t be bothered to put all the seiyuu in so I’ll just put in the other two quite important minor major characters. Unless I mention otherwise, most of the characters below are shinigami.

Tatsumi Seiichiro (巽 征一郎)- voiced by Morikawa Toshiyuki (he also voiced Naraku in Inuyasha from about episode thirty at the very least, so even though he was not the first person who voiced Naraku he is the one who did most of the voicing. He is also in X the anime as series as Aoki Seiichiro and in Saiyuki as Homura. One of the most distinguished bit about the seiyuu is that his hair is this bright yellow/orange colour. In every photo I have seen of him his hair is that colour.)

Initially Tatsumi is just the random secretary in the underworld that occasionally popped out in the anime, but the develop of the story he began to become very important. Tatsumi was actually one of Tsuzuki’s partners, but he quite as Tsuzuki reminded him too much of his mother- who kept on grieving even though he was trying to help her, the same thing happened with him and Tsuzuki. In one of the stories where Tsuzuki ended up in an alternate world it is revealed that what Tatsumi really want it for Tsuzuki to be happy and he is willing to sacrifice a lot for Tsuzuki. Initially Tatsumi was not willing to save Tsuzuki from his Shikigami’s flame as he thought that he no longer has a right in interfering with Tsuzuki’s life as that might prevent him from being happy.

I didn’t like Tatsumi in the beginning, as I said, he was just the random secretary, but when I discovered that what he really wants is for Tsuzuki to be happy, I like him so much better, and now I think he is my favourite character. Even though the author herself said there is no definite pairing in the story I like to believe that Tsuzuki and Tatsumi might end up together!

Tatsumi’s main characteristic is that he is always obsessive with their budget, as his department always owns bills due to Tsuzuki’s actions which often end in great destruction. According to one source Tatsumi used to be an accountant before he died, and that makes sense as anyone one else in his position would probably long have to quit. Tatsumi really managed to make their budget as best as it could.

On the appearance Tatsumi seemed a stereotypical appearance of a male secretary. The suit and the hair along with his glasses which he always play with (gosh, the idea of secretary wearing glasses even continues onto death). He seems a very calm and composed figure until he get angry, which is a very scary sight as he have a very sharp way of delivering insults as well as a determination of paying all insult back along side with interest. Tatsumi is also able to control shadows and he also seems to have died around the same time as Tsuzuki, which makes them roughly the same age.

Watari Yutaka (亘理 温)- voiced by Seki Toshihiko (he also voiced Sanzo in Saiyuki, Mousse in Ranma 1/2)

At a glance it seems that Watari is the true optimistic character in the story, as he does not seem to be burdened with a tragic past, although most believe that this will be proof to be untrue. Watari is a very close friend of Tsuzuki as they are very similar.

Watari is an engineer but he is constantly trying to invent potions, and his greatest dream is actually trying to create a sex changing potion and justify himself by claiming that his reason is to gain a knowledge of women by becoming one himself, in a late bit in the manga he did show a great interest in the pregnancy of one of the woman in his case. While it is not certain whether his scientific invention would even work, his mechanical inventions are very successful, although they are not always practical (his made his first appearance in the anime by showing off his latest invention- a cake cutting machine.) Watari is also accompanied by the mechanic animals that he had created. 001 is a toucan; while 002 is a penguin, and 003, the one that accompany him the most is an owl.

Chief Konoe- Tsuzuki’s superior and he is one of the few characters who know about Tsuzuki’s past life. He is not a very distinguished character and unlike the rest of the minor characters, he has not once made it onto the cover for the manga.

GuShoShin- they are two brother who record down many information as well as working in the library. They are also two chickens…well; they have the appearance of chickens so I presume that they are chickens. I remember when my sister first told me about Yami no matsuei, she was complaining about the two chickens and I was just like ‘yeah yeah whatever’, then I read the story myself and can see why she keep on complaining about the chickens because it is so weird!!!

Mibu Oriya- Muraki’s friend who is also a brothel owner. While is not certain whether he is a good guy or a bad guy as he does help Muraki, but at the same time he did not prevent the rest of the shinigami in reaching Muraki at all.

Hakushaku/the count- his is the person in charged of the candles that represent human lives, and he is invisible with only a half mask and glove visible. In the beginning he seemed to be interested in Tsuzuki in a perverted way (he would look at photos of Tsuzuki as well as speaking to Tsuzuki in innuendos). But later on it seemed that he is genuine fond of Tsuzuki. He and Tatsumi would often spend many of the time arguing in regard to Tsuzuki.

My sister thinks that he is actually Tsuzuki’s dad, that the author decided to make him into Tsuzuki’s dad in the later books. Initially I didn’t believe this theory until funnily enough I watched fushigi yugi. Because what Hotohori said to his son is exactly the same as how the count described Tsuzuki. “He is the most important thing that I left on earth”, and there is also a bit when the count reflects on how Tsuzuki had grew to be so much like him. While I admit that what he said does suggest some fatherly authority but I still question this as his behaviour to Tsuzuki is simply too…perverted? How can a father ever behave like that even if he was trying got disguise his role. There is a hint though, that the count is aware of Tsuzuki’s past.

Short review on Muteki na Bokura, which translate to We are invincible
I don’t have anything against homosexuality but I still prefer to read about heterosexuality more, although I have been listening to one or two drama cds of BL because Koyasu Takehito has done them, and I like hearing his voices. However the drama cd that I will be talking about does not involve him. So the question is why I listen to it? This is because my sister and I keep on hearing people talking about how Narita Ken (who voices Sesshoumaru in Inuyasha) is in this drama cd with Yamaguchi Kappei (Inuyasha in Inuyasha) and everyone was saying how perverted his character is, and we kept on wondering why. Then we listened to the drama cd and the conclusion: “His character is a pervert alright.”

For those who only know Yamaguchi mainly from Inuyasha, don’t be surprised but he is actually in a lot of BL cds! This is like the little extra non-related story that usually happens in the end of some mangas. A little additional review.

Basic story: basically Mizusawa Wataru (Yamaguchi) was half forced to be the lover of Tsuyuki Satoshi as a compensation for injuring Tsuyuki with his bicycle in school. It would almost be rape if it wasn’t for the fact that Mizusawa does love Tsuyuki, and vice versa. The truth is that Tsuyuki actually walked in front of Mizusawa’s bike to be injured to carry out his evil plan.

Personally I think Tsuyuki is a pervert as well as a sex addict while Mizusawa seems the opposite with a dislike of sex. The basic story is the development of the relationship between Tsuyuki and Mizusawa, with occasional parts about Tsuyuki’s cousin Ogata Kazuhiko (voiced by Hiyama Nobuyuki) It’s kind of hard to describe why exactly Tsuyuki is a pervert but trust me he is, and when I listened to the drama cd I had to use ear phones and at parts I was definitely blushing.

Consequences: First of all not only do I understand why every one say Narita is so good at voicing perverted roles I also understand why there are so many Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha pairings due to this drama cd. (it was released at the same time) But just do defend myself, I do regard the Inuyasha pairing as very ewwwwwww!

Secondly I decided that if I ever have a son I would not send him to a all boy’s school. (everything tend to happen in a all boys school instead of a co-ed school)

Lastly, I had to avoid thinking of Fushigi Yugi and Genbu Kaiden in anyway during the fortnight after I heard it because Hiyama is also the one who voiced Hikitsu and after listening to that drama cd I just can’t stop associating these two roles together. This is really bad as Ogata is kind of perverted too while Hikitsu is completely different, he is so noble… This problem occurred as Hikitsu is the only role I have hear Hiyama voicing, and then I hear him in this drama cd…

Ah…what a long entry…please leave a comment as it did take me ages to type up!

Thanks to Kannagi-San for sending me a link to a site that has the sukisyo manga in English, I managed to read the manga. The manga is basically a side story of what happened and I don’t actually know when it is set, but it is probably set in the middle of the story? Well, the manga is not bad…it’s not dodgy like the game, it’s more like the anime perhaps and some of the drama CD, but the only problem is that the drawing styles are really different, so it’s kind of weird. The manga is really about what happens to the sukisyo casts as they tried to put on a school play and I think the most worthwhile reason to read this is actually because it gives a rather insightful view of Ran’s character.

I don’t think Yoru came out, which is quite sad because Ran was begging him to come out, and what Ran said is really really sad: it kind of make you understand why he is so obsessed with Yoru and why he acts the way he does. Personally, I like Ran because I think he and Yoru are so sweet together, but this is the first time when I actually considered Ran as Ran, what he is like by himself, instead of with Yoru. (And I actually feel quite mad in regard to the fact that Yoru didn’t come out considering what Ran said) So I think the manga is definitely worth reading despite how different it looks like.
